Mega Meganium ex – card breakdown

Mega Meganium ex is one of the stronger Mega Pokemon ex that have entered the game since the Mega Evolution era. Its got high at 360 HP, however it’s big differentiator is Giant Bouquet, an attack that does 70 damage plus 50 more for each grass energy attached. That means at base level it’s doing 150 more damage just for having the three grass energy attached to use the attack.

However, Giant Bouquet gets significantly stronger when you factor in the Meganium we got in Mega Evolution.

Meganium has a powerful Wild Growth ability that massively extends Giant Bouquet’s damage output. Every grass energy attached to the Mega Pokemon will count for two, making it possible for Mega Meganium ex to knockout essentially any Pokemon you face.

Mega Meganium ex benefits from powerful grass support

In addition to just a powerful attack, however, Mega Meganium ex benefits from all of the incredible support for grass type decks that have been slowly trickling into the game ever since Twilight Masquerade when Teal Mask Ogerpon ex and Bug Catcher set entered the game.

Speaking of Bug Catcher Set, this card easily lets you find both grass Pokemon and grass energies from the top few cards of your deck. Meanwhile, Teal Mask Ogerpon ex pairs exceptionally well with Mega Meganium ex thanks to Energy Switch. Simply use Teal Dance to both draw cards and get energies into play, then use Energy Switch to quickly put those energies onto your Mega Meganium ex.

Teal Mask Ogerpon ex also acts as a powerful secondary attacker, using its Myriad Leaf Shower combined with Wild Growth to reach insane damage output without even reaching for your Mega Meganium ex.

Additionally, there’s the powerful Forest of Vitality – a card which grants a huge boon to Stage 2 grass decks that can easily and rapidly evolve their Pokemon without waiting several turns or relying on Rare Candy.

Getting Forest of Vitality from your deck and into your hand is relatively easy to do thanks to cards like Secret Box. Meanwhile, Dawn acts as a solid supporter for your strategy, letting you fill your hand with your entire evolution line for both of your Meganium cards.

Wellspring Mask Ogerpon ex is a powerful secondary attacker

Also, we can’t forget about Wellspring Mask Ogerpon ex – this deck’s powerful secondary attacker. While Wellspring Mask Ogerpon ex may feel a tad out of place in this deck due to its typing, it actually fits in quite solidly, giving you more versatility in your attacks, and potentially unlocking multiple KO turns.

Torrential Pump is the attack to look for here – an attack that does 100 damage to the defending Pokemon and 120 to a Pokemon on the Bench. Attacks that can attack two Pokemon simultaneously are always strong, unlocking much greater versatility than Mega Meganium’s Giant Bouquet alone could achieve. And because Wild Growth will cause basic grass energy to count as two energy when attached to your Wellspring Mask, you can use this powerful attack for just one water energy and one grass – easy enough to achieve especially with your Teal Mask Ogerpon ex and that Energy Switch combo.

Mega Meganium ex is already doing big things in Japan, and it should be quite strong when Ascended Heroes releases worldwide. Look for this deck to be an even stronger contender post rotation when the many advantages granted to grass decks in recent sets take center stage.
