Aniplex Teases Mystery Anime Reveal via a Countdown – What Could it Be?
What anime are you most hoping to air soon? Many are taking to X to share their top predictions for what Aniplex’s mystery anime might be after the entertainment company shared a cryptic social post complete with a link to a website that has a slowly ticking down timer.
Aniplex is a major Japanese entertainment company responsible for producing and distributing massive hits like Sword Art Online, Fullmetal Alchemist, Demon Slayer and others. So getting a teaser like this could be a very big deal, even if many in the west won’t likely realize its magnitude until well after the new anime surfaces.
Could the new anime be an adaptation of Dengeki Daisy?
Right now, there are only clues as to what the new anime might be. One of the theories with the most credibility is that it will be an anime adaptation of the cult favorite Dengeki Daisy manga that ran from late 2000s-early 2010s.
Indeed, the blue daisy patterns seen in the image currently on Aniplex’s mystery countdown site contain flower patterns that are nearly identical to the infamous blue daisies contained on the covers in Dengeki Daisy. Blue daisies aren’t just a design motif for the series, however: daisies play a huge role in the plot, with the lead mystery hero being codenamed Daisy.
While I thoroughly enjoyed Dengeki Daisy and would love to see that manga adapted to an anime, there is yet another perhaps even more plausible answer.
Aniplex could be teasing Magical Girl Dandelion
While my money is on Dengeki Daisy – the blue flowers are just such a solid match for that classic – many feel more strongly about this being an adaptation of Magical Girl Dandelion. A much more recent manga, this one is massively popular right now, making it a more likely candidate for an anime adaptation in most hardcore manga/anime fans.
The “glitch” could refer to either candidate
If you stare long enough at the countdown page, a glitch occurs that causes things to distort briefly before coming back into focus. Some point to the dark themes bleeding into the lighter themes in Magical Girl Dandelion as the closest fit to the glitch that occurs on the countdown page. However, Dengeki Daisy fans will know that computer hacking plays a huge role in that anime. So this glitch could be a nod towards the computer themes in Dengeki Daisy.
