Mega Darkrai ex is Coming to the Pokemon TCG – Likely in Pitch Black
The Pokemon Company International has officially revealed Mega Darkrai ex as part of the Abyss Eye Japanese set releasing on May 22, 2026 – the same day as Chaos Rising comes out internationally.
Along with artwork that is eye-catching even in just its Double Rare form, Mega Darkrai ex also offers a competitive advantage to players. Translated, this card’s attacks read as follows:
Night Raid: (110+) If any of your Benched Pokémon have damage counters on them, this attack does 110 more damage.
Abyss Eye: If your opponent's Active Pokémon is affected by a Special Condition, Knock Out that Pokémon.
While Night Raid is handy for taking knockouts against many Pokemon, it’s the Abyss Eye that really makes this card enticing. Attacks that instantly knockout a Pokemon are highly relevant when the format is dominated by three-prize Mega Pokemon ex.
Card translation: Both Active Pokémon are now Confused (excluding [Darkness] Pokémon).
Thanks to the newly revealed Dark Bell card that will be included in Abyss Eye (and likely in our own English Pitch Black set), granting a special condition to your opponent’s active Pokemon feels easy enough to achieve, making Abyss Eye potentially a deadly threat in the Pokemon TCG standard meta.

Mega Darkrai will likely be released in English this summer as part of Pitch Black
Even before the official reveal of Mega Darkrai ex, rumors were circulating about the unofficially announced release day for a Mega Darkrai focused set called Pitch Black. Indeed, the Pokemon Company may have inadvertently leaked this set, with stores already posting now deleted listings for prerelease events for the set starting on July 4, 2026.

That perfectly aligns with the rumored Pitch Black release date of July 17, 2026. I’m assuming a few stores posted these prerelease events before they were supposed to, effectively proving the rumored release date to be true.
Stay tuned for more news about Pitch Black – the Pokemon Company International should be announcing it within the next few weeks. Regardless, Mega Darkrai ex feels pretty much locked-in for us with this latest reveal.
