Pitch Black’s First Special Illustration Rare Card Was Revealed in English
Mega Chandelure ex gets the distinction of being the first ever English Special Illustration Rare card spoiled for the upcoming Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution – Pitch Black expansion releasing on July 17, 2026.
This gorgeous and spooky Mega Chandelure ex SIR was sent to NME who shared it along with its evolution line cards from the main Pitch Black set list: Litwick and Lampent.
Mega Chandelure ex SIR is anticipated to be one of the top chase cards from Pitch Black. It’s an eerily spooky card to be released mid-summer, making it all the more appropriate for the dark theming of the set.
Speaking of the card’s potential value on the secondary card market, it’s already the seventh most valuable card overall (via data from TCGPlayer) from the Japanese sister set, Abyss Eye, on which this set is largely based.
Mega Chandelure ex outlook for players
From a competitive standpoint, the card this one most reminds me of is the Leafeon VMAX from way back in Evolving Skies – a deck archetype that was once one of the strongest in the Pokémon TCG meta due to its ability to rapidly scale damage output and add tons of additional retreat costs to the opposing Pokémon.
While Mega Chandelure ex hasn’t been topping tournaments in Japan where the set is already available and being played, this deck could still make for a fun one for more casual or semi-competitive players, or those looking to grind the Pokémon TCG Live ladder.
