Sword Art Online’s next release has been revealed, and for fans of the franchise’s earliest days, this one will be a blast from the past.
Releasing on December 10, 2026, Sword Art Online will get its next official manga release for Re:Aincrad – a retelling of the original story through a brand-new manga.
In Volume 7, Kirito and Asuna near the heart of the action of the Aincrad arc, facing down the powerful Gleam Eyes on floor 74 – where Kirito unleashes his most deadly power. While the anticipated manga volume does not have a cover revealed yet, we do have its officially confirmed blurb, which you can read below.
“The awakening of the “two-sword style”! The seventh volume of the fierce battle against the strongest man!
Under the fierce attack of the 74th floor boss, the “Blue-Eyed Demon,” Kirito’s comrades are on the brink of annihilation.
To save them and Asuna, Kirito finally unleashes the skill he has kept hidden: “Dual Wielding”! Kirito single-handedly defeats the boss with a barrage of sword strikes, but rumors of his “dual-wielding” prominence spread like wildfire, bringing an end to his peaceful daily life.
Meanwhile, Asuna requests a leave of absence from the Knights of the Blood Oath to form a party with Kirito. However, the commander, Heathcliff, would never allow it, and challenges Kirito to a one-on-one duel for Asuna’s freedom. Heathcliff is a wielder of the “Holy Sword,” which can block any attack, and is considered the strongest man, “invincible”—.
Can Kirito’s fastest sword strikes through the formidable cross shield?! A fateful showdown begins! Meanwhile, a conspiracy targeting Kirito is swirling behind the scenes...!?”

In English, we have only four Volumes published so far by Yen Press, with no confirmed Vol. 5 release date. Vol. 4 was just released in 2026, however, meaning there’s a solid likelihood the series will continue publication in the States.
In Japan, Re:Aincrad enjoys modest success, with continued and ongoing serialization. The currently serialized manga is further ahead, of course, than Vol. 7, with the latest chapters following Kirito and Asuna on their honeymoon quest with Yui.
Apart from the ongoing serialization, the latest volume to release in Japan was Vol. 6 on April 10, 2026. It focuses on Asuna and Kirito’s burgeoning relationship.
Right now in Japan, three different Sword Art Online manga serializations are running simultaneously: Re:Aincrad, Unanswered//butterfly, and Unital Ring. While Unanswered//butterfly has a scheduled volume release for November 27, 2026, Re:Aincrad Vol. 7 will be the final Sword Art Online manga release of 2026.
Undoubtedly a new volume for Unital Ring will be announced for 2027 in Japan, and will include key plot developments in the story, as well as several precious moments between Asuna and Kirito as they celebrate Asuna’s 19th birthday.
The latest chapters of Unital Ring manga see Kirito celebrate Asuna’s birthday with a special gift.
Until then, stay tuned for more updates, and check out my Sword Art Online release guide for all recent and upcoming content.
