Sword Art Online Vol. 29 details

As SAO Vol. 29 will be releasing very soon in Japan, we already know some key information about it.

  • Release date: April 10, 2026

  • Pages: 328

Here’s the blurb releasaed about the book on the official Dengeki Bunko website:

The great war that will shake the Underworld two hundred years in the future has finally begun. Thanks to the efforts of the new and old Integrity Knights, along with Kirito, they barely manage to defend the Central Cathedral, but the price is that Eolyne, the leader of the Integrity Knights, is taken prisoner.

There, he encounters his sworn enemy, the gun-wielding Istar, and Mutasina, an enemy with whom Kirito and his friends once fought a fierce battle in the Unital Ring.

With the appearance of a new character who travels between the two worlds, the Unital Ring arc takes an even more turbulent turn!

What to expect in Sword Art Online Vol. 29

Based on the blurb and newly revealed artwork, there are a few plot elements we can guess at as to be included in the upcoming light novel. For starters, both the blurb and the artwork seem to be implying one thing: the world of Unital Ring and the Underworld are finally converging. While we don’t know this for certain, the author himself has been hinting at the innevitable convergence of these two worlds for some time.

With Kirito standing fully clad in his Unital Ring gear beside Eolyn who is clearly wearing his Underworld clothes, it seems highly likely that we will see the two worlds collide more than ever before. The blurb itself seems to imply this by emphasizing “the appearance of a new character who travels between the two worlds” meaning Mutasina who appears to be the intruder Kirito entered the underworld to find.

Indeed, many online are already theorizing that the red shadow you see in the background is being cast by Mutasina herself. Additionally, this shadowy figure appears to be crossing swords with someone else – a fact which ties in well with the “great war” hinted at in the book blurb.

Whatever occurs in Vol. 29, at over 300 pages this is bound to be an epic adventure, and I have the feeling that many, many loose ends are about to be tied up in this story. Vol. 29 is shaping up to be a pivotal one for the Unital Ring arc, and perhaps many questions on our minds will be answered in this next chapter.

And who knows – if the story comes to a satisfying-enough of a conclusion at least for the opening part of Unital Ring, maybe an anime adaption is closer in sight than we might realize?
