The 10 Most Expensive Mega Dream ex Japanese Pokemon Cards

Mega Dream ex was released in Japan on November 28, 2025, and many collectors are wondering what the top chase cards from the set are so far. Luckily, we have reliable sales data for these cards. And while the top chase cards don’t directly translate to English when the set comes out, it’s still highly tied. As Ascended Heroes releasing in 2026 will be based largely on Mega Dream ex, it’s highly relevant to look at how these cards are fairing on the secondary card market.

#1 Mega Gengar ex – Special Illustration Rare

Market price: $521

Mega Gengar ex SIR is the most expensive card in Mega Dream ex, and it’s anticipated to be one of the most expensive Ascended Heroes cards as well. This card has already been revealed in English for the set, and it’s easily one of the most hyped cards in the last year – just below Umbreon from Prismatic Evolutions and Mega Charizard X from Phantasmal Flames.

#2 Mega Dragonite ex – Mega Hyper Rare

Mega Dragonite ex Mega Hyper Rare

Market price: $392

Despite being off to a solid start when they released in Mega Evolution, Mega Hyper Rares have fallen off a little since that inaugural set. Despite being rarer than Special Illustration Rare cards, they tend to not fair as well as a truly top chase SIR. This was the case for Phantasmal Flames when it released in English, and is anticipated to be the same when Ascended Heroes comes out in English.

That being said, the Mega Hyper Rare of Mega Charizard X ex was initially more valuable for the Japanese set. Could the Japanese market be following the English market here? Or Mega Gengar ex really just so desirable of a card that it can overwhelm a more rare one featuring an iconic Pokemon like Dragonite?

The answer is probably relatively simple: once the allure of Mega Hyper Rare cards wore off, collectors simply preferred the arguably superior artwork of an SIR.

#3 Mega Dragonite ex – Special Illustration Rare

Mega Dragonite ex SIR

Market price: $256

With all of the discourse on Mega Hyper Rare cards, I actually wouldn’t be entirely surprised if the Mega Dragonite ex SIR ends up being more valuable in the English release than the Mega Hyper Rare. While so far Mega Hyper Rare cards have taken up at least spot #2 on lists, this Mega Dragonite ex is much like its Mega Charizard X ex counterpart. Both came with two alternate arts, and both feature very similar themes and concepts.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and predict Mega Dragonite ex SIR outperforming its Mega Hyper Rare print when Acended Heroes comes out. However, in Mega Dream ex, the Hyper Rare is clearly the top contender.

#4 Pikachu ex – Special Illustration Rare

Pikachu ex SIR

Market price: $209

I’m pretty excited to see this Pikachu ex SIR doing so well from Mega Dream ex. Besides having been created by Pokemon legend James Turner, Pikachu ex getting included in this set at all is an obvious nod to one of the greatest cards in the Scarlet and Violet era.

Given its solid market price in the Japanese set, I think we can expect very good things for this card when it gets included in Ascended Heroes.

#5 Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex – Special Illustration Rare

Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex sir

Market price: $147

Team Rocekt’s Mewtwo ex may never have gotten the respect it deserved competitively, but it certainly did in terms of artistry, with its SIR in Destined Rivals becoming one of the most expensive cards in 2025. Already it seems that this alternate look at the duo is less desirable than its counterpart, but it’s still a fitting tribute to one of the most iconic cards in recent memory.

#6 N's Zoroark ex SIR

N's Zoroark ex SIR

Market price: $113

N’s Zoroark ex SIR is off to a solid start from a market value perspective, and essentially confirms my prediction that this card would end up being one of the most expensive cards when the English version comes out. Despite the same card getting an SIR print in Journey Together, Journey Together feels like one of the lesser sets of 2025, and that print gets something of a downgrade just for being tied to it. Also, the artwork here is admittedly captivating, creating a more compelling collector’s piece than the original.

#7 Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex – Special Illustration Rare

Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex

Market price: $82

While I’m not surprised to see Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex SIR end up in the top 10 from Mega Dream ex, I am a little surprised to see it ranking so much lower than the N’s Zoroark. After all, this is the first time we’ve gotten an alternate art for Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex, making it a bit more novel than a reprint. I could see things going differently for their market value in Ascended Heroes, with collector excitement for a brand new card/art exceeding love for the N’s Zoroark ex.

#8 Iono's Bellibolt ex – Special Illustration Rare

#8 Iono's Bellibolt ex – Special Illustration Rare

Market price: $75

Iono gets one last shoutout here. A behemoth in terms of value from the Scarlet and Violet era, this creative take on the already released Iono’s Bellibolt alt should be just as popular for the English version as this one is from Mega Dream ex.

#9 Canari – Special Illustration Rare

Canari

Market price: $73

Move over Iono – there’s a new streamer in town! Canari is from the new Legends Z-A game, and she makes her presence known as the top Trainer SIR card from the set.

#10 Mega Froslass ex – Special Illustration Rare

#10 Mega Froslass ex – Special Illustration Rare

Market price: $54

Last but not least is this gorgeous Mega Froslass ex SIR card. This card gets bonus points for its incredible artistry, looking like something you’d see in some Japanese print. Mega Froslass is one of the newly introduced Mega Pokemon for the Pokemon Z-A game, and as such gets some added hype from collectors looking to bag this Pokemon printed on a card for the first time.

Prices for Mega Dream ex appear solid, making the set appear at first glance to be a more well-rounded set for valuable card chasers than the comparatively polarizing Phantasmal Flames which was top heavy in terms of value for the top two cards. While the overall values won’t be one-to-one for the English set, it’s highly likely that Ascended Heroes will follow a similar pattern for its top chase cards, making this top 10 Mega Dream cards an excellent spoiler for the upcoming Ascended Heroes expansion.
