There’s Nothing “Pitch Black” About These Three New Pokémon Cards
Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution: Pitch Black is still a few months out – releasing on July 17, 2026. Yet we’re already getting a peak at what’s to come via the Japanese sister set, Abyss Eye on which the English/International set will be based. While the complete Pitch Black set list for the main cards was already spoiled online, now card images for the secret rares are trickling in – and they’re surprisingly bright and cheerful for a set entitled: Pitch Black.
Below, we’ll be looking at each of the three brand new spoiled Pitch Black secret rare cards.
Fomantis – Illustration Rare 82/81
-
Grass Pokémon HP 70 Attack: Tackle — 30 damage. This Pokémon also does 10 damage to itself. Weakness: Fire ×2 Retreat: 1
As we saw from the main set cards, Pitch Black is paying special attention to the Alola region despite its headliner being from the Sinnoh region. However, this is probably a nod to the Mega Dimensions DLC for the Pokémon Legends Z-A video game rather than to Dark Rai’s place of origin: many Alola Pokémon are featured in. The DLC features many Alola Pokémon including Mega Zeraora itself.
If any card could counter the gloomy title of this set, however, it would be this floral Fomantis – a card that springs sunshine and good times.
Armarouge – Illustration Rare 83/81
-
Fire Pokémon HP 140 Attack: Flame Legion — 40+ damage. This attack does 40 more damage for each Fire Energy attached to your Benched Pokémon. Weakness: Water ×2 Retreat: 2
Next up we have this fiery Armarouge Illustration Rare. While there’s nothing particularly unique about this IR, it does lean hard into the fire attributes of the Pokémon (you can see magma cliffs in the background). However, the inclusion of Armarouge in Pitch Black has more to do with the Mega Dimensions DLC than anything: you can get this Pokémon via a specific side quest in the game!
#3 Goldeen Illustration Rare
-
Water Pokémon HP 70 Attack: Horn Attack — 30 damage. Weakness: Lightning ×2 Retreat: 1
And there’s Goldeen. While not having anything to do with either the Pitch Black theming for the set or the DLC, It’s always nice to get an original Kanto Pokémon in a set. Oftentimes these Illustration Rare oldies fetch a solid amount on the secondary card market – like the Psyduck Illustration Rare from Ascended Heroes that I love to talk about.
Stay close to the blog this week as even more Secret Rare cards are expected to be leaked online for both Abyss Eye and Pitch Black!
