Winning the Chainsaw Man UNION ARENA Rare Battle
Wondering what it takes to win the Chainsaw Man Rare Battle?
I won mine last week playing Purple Reze – my favorite deck from the Chainsaw Man UNION ARENA set.
While there are only a few Rare Battles left in the season, I thought I’d share my experience with the event and what makes Purple Reze such a solid pick.
A few notes on the deck above
Part of the ratios of this deck were due more to what I had on hand. One thing that I find interesting when deck building is to build under constraints. While it’s easy enough to plan to build the entire deck in groups of four as it’s supposed to be, sometimes when you’re forced to build under constraints, you come up with creative synergies that work really well.
At the same time, sometimes it’s better to just have the staples. For example, I had attempted to run the Reze deck with just two Denji SRs. That was not good, however, as this deck really relies on having the three-cost Denji to improve consistency while also enabling BP reduction.

Having the three-cost Reze at just two copies, however, felt right. Meanwhile, the Bomb Devil (which is typically run at four in a Reze deck) at two felt right for me as it required less self sidelining.
In the Rare Battle, the four-cost Reze didn’t come up much, but in practice I liked having her around for added pressure without the need to sideline my own characters.
Mastering the Red Chainsaw Man matchup
The most important matchup to learn for the Rare Battle is the matchup into Red Chainsaw Man. And really, there’s just one thing to be really aware of.

The strongest play you have into Red Chainsaw Man is to use your BP reduction to sideline Power. This removes the ability for them to essentially block your removal by passing it off to a four-cost Chainsaw Man who will come back active anyway.
In my Rare Battle, I played against two different Red Chainsaw Man decks, and both matchups were difficult. The ability to reduce Power to zero and remove her self protection was vital in both battles.
A general note on Purple Reze
One thing to know about Purple Reze: it’s not a rush deck. Because of the way this deck plays, it’s usually better to keep extra characters on the energy line rather than pushing up a bunch of characters early on.
Because you’ll need a built-up board to pull off your strongest abilities, gaining an early game advantage isn’t nearly as strong as building up to your combos and setting up for more powerful turns later.
How much is the Denji Chainsaw Man UNION ARENA Rare Battle Winner card worth?
In terms of Rare Battles this fall season, I’m one-for-one. Rare Battles have gotten difficult to get into, and in my area you have to either have very quick thumbs or good relationships with stores to compete. Hopefully Rare Battles get a little easier to attend in the future, but I’m happy to have at least won my one Rare Battle of the season.

Especially when the prize is pretty solid, like this Chainsaw Man winner card. Just how much are these Winner cards worth? While each Rare Battle is different, Chainsaw Man is no slouch.
If you don’t manage to get first, don’t sweat it: the UNION RARE you get for second is just as rare and almost as valuable.
