The Witcher: Yennefer’s Character Growth in Season Two

In this episode, we talk about writing, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Witcher Season 2 and Yennefer’s character growth.

We also discuss some of the differences between season one and season two, like Triss Merrigold’s red hair, Ciri’s dark eyebrows, and Geralt’s sudden loquaciousness.

*Mega Spoilers Ahead

Who is Yennefer?

Yennefer is a powerful mage in The Witcher – one of the most powerful characters of all. But she’s got a soft spot – she wants a child of her own.

In Season 2, Yennefer Loses Her Powers

In season two of The Witcher, she is given the chance to develop in a way that is different from the books. She loses her powers, and even attempts to betray Ciri in order to get them back.

Does this make sense for her character?

One opinion is that by focusing more on Yennefer’s personal development and less on the bond between Yennefer and Ciri, it detracts from their relationship. Is that the case? Or does the opportunity for Yennefer to grow and change and eventually sacrifice herself for her adopted daughter itself show a greater bond?

We answer this and more in the episode.

Who is Ciri?

Ciri is the Child of Elder blood, and the most powerful character in the Witcher.

How Old is Ciri in the Show?

She’s supposed to be around 16, which is half way between her age in the books and the show. In season one, Ciri looked pretty young. By styling her differently, she looks much older – more similar in age to the actress who plays her.

Was Toss a Coin To Your Witcher his greatest hit? Or does Burn Butcher Burn come close?

Should Eskell Have Died?

Eskell died in the book – did it make sense that Geralt was so willing to kill him and not kill Ciri?
