Mega Lopunny ex card breakdown
Gale Thrust is the attack to watch here. Coming in at 230 damage for just one energy is what has players turning their head. While you will have to switch Lopunny in to take advantage of the enhanced damage, that’s easy enough to do thanks to Jet Energy.
Otherwise, Mega Lopunny also has high HP for a stage 1 Pokemon weighing in at 330 HP, but will also offer up three prizes when it is knocked out. It’s a trade-off but it’s one that might just be worth making, enabling you to take multiple hits while opening up a favorable prize trade.
Modify damage with Dusknoir
Let’s be real – 230 damage while impressive isn’t enough to knock out many threats right now in the meta. For that reason you will need to add damage to the Gale Thrust. Dusknoir is the tool this deck uses to achieve that aim, effectively enhancing Gale Thrust to a 360 damage attack. Or you can use “Cursed Blast” from your Dusknoir to KO anything on the bench if it’s lower HP.
Just hope your opponent isn’t running a Psyduck on their bench as that card really messes up the Cursed Blast strategy.
Supporting Basic Pokemon
This deck runs three supporting basic Pokemon that help Mega Lopunny ex achieve its goals. Those three are Klefki, Latias ex, and Mega Kangaskhan ex.
First Latias ex is here to make it easier to pivot Mega Lopunny into the active spot (unlocking the full power of Gale Thrust).
Because you’ll be looking to switch out your active Pokemon often, it’s helpful to run Pokemon like Klefki or Kangaskhan ex that have powerful abilities that activate while in the active.
Klefki shuts down and stalls out your opponent when it is in the active spot, while Kangaskhan unlocks draw power. Both are helpful in helping you get ahead so you can start taking KOs.
The Ditto, meanwhile is just here to find any of those other Basics, especially the Klefki or the Kangaskhan.
Supporter card choice
While the Boss’s Order’s is self explanatory enough, there are two other critical supporters to this deck’s strategy. First and foremost is Hilda.
Hilda works especially well with Mega Lopunny ex as playing it will let you find one of your vital evolution Pokemon and one of your special energies – usually Jet Energy. Assuming you have a Buneary on the board, Hilda is a one-stop-shop card that can bring a Mega Lopunny ex from your deck and the Jet energy you need to get its attack off.
Ciphermaniac is a strong consistency card as well, letting you hand pick the next two cards you’re going to draw off of your Mega Kangaskhan ex’s “Run Errand” ability.
Mega Lopunny ex may not be the strongest Phantasmal Flame deck, but it does show promise, especially those looking for a rogue deck to take the competition by surprise.
