Chaos Rising Prerelease Promos Revealed: How Strong are They?
The Chaos Rising Prerelease Promos were revealed by the Pokémon Company International today, and they look gorgeous!
Prerelease season starts two weeks ahead of the official launch of Chaos Rising, starting May 9, 2026 at local game shops and running until the full release on May 22, 2026.
Get these prerelease promos in the Chaos Rising Build & Battle Box
The Chaos Rising Prerelease Promos are exclusive promos only available in the special Chaos Rising Build & Battle deck. This product can be found at local game stores during the prerelease time period typically at prerelease events. At these events, trainers build a unique 40 card deck from the included kit which they can customize with the four Chaos Rising booster packs found inside the box.
Each Build and Battle Box contains just one of the exclusive stamped promos, making these otherwise unassuming cards relatively valuable when compared to their non-stamped counterparts.
Not only are prerelease events a great opportunity to get your hands on Chaos Rising cards before they even come out (and are at their most valuable), it’s also a fun time where you get to build your own forty card deck and battle against other Pokémon TCG Trainers.
This time around, the Chaos Rising prerelease promos look really cool. Below, I’ll be ranking them from strong to strongest and giving you some tips to look out for when building your own Chaos Rising prerelease deck.
#4 Goodra
First, let me start by saying that the Chaos Rising stamp on these cards looks so good. With that out of the way, here we have this prerelease season’s weakest card overall: Goodra. However, the artwork is gorgeous – well above what we would expect from a run-of-the-mill Pokémon card. Set in a peaceful pastoral setting, Goodra isn’t doing a whole lot with its Slimy Sliding effect in the Prerelease format – although stopping your opponent’s Pokémon from retreating is relevant enough in a format that typically lacks powerful gust moves like Boss’s Orders.
#3 Crobat
Two things come to my mind right away when looking at the prerelease promos for Chaos Rising. First, this set’s promos focus heavily on Stage 2 Pokémon. My guess is that the prerelease kits themselves will include some Basic or Stage 1 attackers to complement the more support oriented nature of some of these Stage 2 Pokémon, of which Crobat is a great example. Poison Sound Wave isn’t a crazy strong attack, but Nighttime Maneuvers is a strong search move in a format that typically lacks a ton of consistency options.
As a main attacker, this Crobat won’t be your best move. But manage to get a solid Basic attacker in your packs or kit and this card search engine could be your best pair for it. Just keep that in mind when building your own prerelease deck.
#2 Ampharos
Ampharos feels like a wild card. On the one hand, if you get several Judge supporter cards or some other way to ensure both players have the same amount of cards, then Flashing Bolt is the single strongest attack out of the cards included as promos in this set. Otherwise, Flashing Bolt feels a little lackluster at just 140 damage on a Stage 2 Pokémon. If you do get this card in your Prerelease kit, just make sure to include as many Judge Supporter cards as you can.
#1 Delphox
This Delphox stood out to me right away. Flaring Magic is an incredible ability to have in the Prerelease format especially, letting you refill your hand up to 7 cards by just discarding a single basic fire energy. While Delphox being a Stage 2 might make its effectiveness in the Standard format relatively limited, it’s a powerful play in prerelease tournaments given decks typically lack this kind of insane draw capabilities.
And unlike the more support-focused Crobat promo, Delphox also has a solid attack thanks to Energized Storm – one that could easily buff to some significant damage if you manage to get enough energy onto the field.
With plenty of Stage 2 promos to choose from, the Chaos Rising Prerelease format is looking to be very strategic. Complete with gorgeous cards and plenty of search/draw capabilities, this format should look significantly different from usual Prerelease tournaments, and should also be plenty of fun!
