Gundam Card Game Players Are Getting Excited for a New Mission

Bandai unveiled a new way for Gundam Card Game players to access competitive-level events at the local level. Called the “Newtype Challenge,” this appears to be the first “Mission” series tournament of its kind for 2025, and it features some incredible prizes players can hope to earn.

This is intended to be a step up from the regular Store Tournament events that are already well underway. The first Mission kicks off on September 5, 2025 and will run until October 19, 2025.

The Newtype Challenge is pure hype!

I’ve been monitoring the situation for these new style of tournaments via the Bandai TCG+ App and can say they are totally hyped. Events are filling up to the brim, and many events are already exceeding their maximum allowed capacity. Clearly the hype that saw prices for Newtype Rising products skyrocket isn’t slowing down and players are dying to get their hands on these prizes.

What can you win from Gundam Missions?

Although the prizes for Gundam Store Tournaments are solid, it looks as though Bandai is upping the ante for these Missions. Just for participating you can get an alternate art promo of the super popular “Overflowing Affection” card. Given these are a staple of every White deck, you can bet players are going to be hitting up Challenges just to load up their decks with a playset.

Manage to make the top four of the tournament – an impressive feat given how many players these events are already maxing out at – and you get an additional prize: an alt art Suletta Mercury Pilot card.

Finally, the Winner Card is going to be the most sought after among the group, as only one will be given out and to the player who manages to win the event. Given that kind of scarcity, this card should be worth a decent amount when this event series kicks off.

Apart from the unique prizes and limited run, it looks like Newtype Challenges and Mission-style tournaments in general will follow the same rules as a regular tournament. Swiss Rounds will determine the victor. Of course, the intensity around prizes will undoubtedly create a more competitive environment. And while it’s not nearly the same level of competition you’ll find at a regional, this could be the ideal fit for players looking for the next challenge once they’ve gotten a few store tournament wins under their belt!
