Lorcana: Fabled to Usher In a New Era of Lorcana
Ravensburger just released a ton of info on the future of Lorcana as well as several in-depth looks at upcoming sets. The most exciting news released, however, surrounds the upcoming Fabled set releasing on September 5, 2025. Although this set has been teased for a while, getting an actual inside look at the products, cards and new features it will include fills me with a ton of hope for Lorcana. Indeed, many of the issues that had begun to crop up surrounding the game could vanish once Fabled releases. We’ll get into all of this and more below.
Fabled marks the beginning of Lorcana rotation
Ravensburger has made the astute decision to introduce set rotation into the game, and Fabled will be the first set where rotation happens. Essentially, Lorcana will be rotating out the first four sets – everything from The First Chapter through Ursula’s Return. This will have a dramatic impact on the game as core classics like the Merlin Bounce Package will no longer be the defining mechanic of Amethyst-backed decks. Ultimately, the rotation will be a good thing for overall game health.
Lorcana gets additional rarities to improve opening experience
Disney items are notoriously collectable. However, there’s been a pretty startling apathy towards Lorcana from a collector’s side of things. While there are some die hard fans who will chase Enchanted cards, those are available at such a low rarity that it makes it pretty infrequent to actually pull any sort of “hit” as TCG enthusiasts call them. Having multiple alternate rarities of cards should dramatically improve the product opening experience, giving players and collectors a reason to chase more cards.
The new rarities that will be getting introduced in Fabled are: Epic Rare and Iconic Rare. Epic rare is a stopgap between legendary and enchanted, while Ioconic is even rarer than enchanted.
Ideally these rarities would have been available from the start as their equivelents are such a vital aspect of other TCGs. However, getting them introduced to Lorcana should drive a ton of excitement around the Fabled set and bring a lot more TCG enthusiasts to the game, helping it branch further out and away from its Disney-loving core fanbase.
Some cards will be reprinted in Fabled and will be playable after rotation
One interesting tidbit of information shared during the the Disney Lorcana Twitch Stream is that certain cards will be getting a reprint in Fabled. This is pretty standard TCG practice, but as confirmed by Ravensburger, cards getting reprinted in the Fabled set will be useable post rotation. A few cards shared in this way were Rockstar Stitch, Tinker Bell Giant Fairy, and Pooh Honey Wizard.
If you already have these cards and they are reprinted in Fabled, you can use the original cards in your decks at official tournaments and events.
And that’s about it for the news about Fabled. Ultimately, Ravensburger is doing the right thing by making these changes to the game, showing that they are very serious about Lorcana’s future and helping make it an even better than it already is.
But before we end this article, here’s a sneak peek at a few of the new cards coming out in Fabled, as well as some of the new rarities.
Epic rare
Epic Rares are new alternate artworks that you can pull from Lorcana packs starting with Fabled. Featuring existing cards with an all new look and feel, these “Epic” rare cards will be more rare than legendaries but not as rare as Enchanteds.
Iconic rare
Iconic rare cards, meanwhile, will replace Enchanted cards as the top chase in a new set, and will feature entirely new and original artwork not seen in any other Lorcana card or Disney proprety. You can bet these Iconic rare cards will be insanely hard to pull and incredible valuable.
With all of this new info, it’s safe to say Lorcana is getting much, much more exciting. I can’t wait for Fabled to revitalize the Lorcana game and world. Until then, stay tuned for more spoilers as I’ll be updating the blog with everything that comes out when it comes out!
