Mega Lucario ex League Battle Deck Easy Upgrade Guide

The next Pokemon TCG League Battle Deck has been revealed and it will feature Mega Lucario ex and release on May 22, 2026.

Although Mega Lucario ex is not exactly big man on campus in the current meta – post 2026 rotation it’s looking like a much stronger deck. Maybe it’s for that reason that the Pokemon Company is releasing this League Battle deck for players to easily get their hands on this undervalued archetype.

For those unfamiliar, Pokemon TCG: League Battle Decks are essentially the premier Pokemon TCG starter deck. Unlike more basic decks, League Battle decks are intended to be Pokemon League ready, meaning you can take it to your local shop and play it at a reasonably competitive level.

However, there are a few very easy upgrades you will be able to make to this deck to help it be even stronger.

Mega Lucario ex League Battle Deck list

While you can see the deck list on the back of the box, here’s what the actual deck will look like when you take it out of the box.

Mega Lucario ex deck list

Just at first glance, this deck looks pretty solid for an out-of-the-box deck. However, there are a few easy ways to make it a lot stronger. To help you make the easy upgrade, let’s look at this top level competitive deck that finished in the top 16 out of the 7000 players at the latest Champions League tournament in Japan.

Upgraded Mega Lucario ex deck list

Overall, you’ll notice that these decks have a lot in common albeit with some very vital differences that serve to make the upgraded version stronger.

Some of these cards may look a little foreign to you as they are cards that have not come out yet but ones that will make their debut in the coming Perfect Order set – a set that releases well before the release of the Mega Lucario ex League Battle deck in May.

First, let’s talk about a card that is already available in the Pokemon TCG, and one that is a very smart replacement for the Iris’s Fighting Spirit included in the League Battle deck.

Judge is a vital draw supporter

Although Iris’s Fighting Spirit is a decent draw supporter, Judge is better, letting you draw four new cards rather than only drawing up until six. Meanwhile, it has the added advantage of messing with your opponent’s hand – an effect that will be massively relevant post rotation where we no longer will have access to the likes of Iono.

Wally’s Compassion grants an edge to Mega Pokemon ex decks

Wally’s Compassion is another wise alteration to the upgraded deck, letting you heal all damage to your Mega Pokemon ex, forcing your opponent to stack up more high damage hits to knock your high HP Pokemon out.

Poke Pad lets you search out Pokemon seamlessly

Poke Pad is a powerful Item card already available in the Pokemon TCG. As such, I’m a little surprised to see it not included in the Mega Lucario ex deck in the first place. Using Poke Pad lets you search out any Pokemon without a Rule Box – a powerful play into a deck like this one that requires a lot of little Pokemon to get set up for evolution later down the line.

Meowth ex

Meowth ex makes its debut in the Perfect Order set and feels like a seamless add to this deck, letting you search out any Supporter from your deck the turn it is played via Last-Ditch Catch. You’ll see Meowth ex in a lot of different Pokemon decks once it comes out, and Mega Lucario ex is no exception.

Rocky Energy

Lastly, Rocky Energy is the other upcoming Pokemon card you’ll want to eye to include in your fully upgraded Mega Lucario ex deck. Not only does this Special Energy count as a Fighting Energy for your Lucario’s attacks, it prevents all effects of attacks done to your Mega Lucario, making it impervious to the likes of one-hit-knock-out effects from the likes of Mega Absol ex.

In the current environment, getting a Mega Lucario ex League Battle deck might seem a little funny. League Battle Decks are usually intended for competitive play, not casual. However, Mega Lucario ex as a deck gets a lot stronger post rotation, and is already topping massive tournaments in Japan. Look out for this deck making its competitive splash in the format to come, as well as for this newest League Battle Deck to be pretty popular when it drops in May!
