Mega Zygarde ex Deck List and Guide

Welcome to the Perfect Order era of the Pokémon TCG!

Breaking down Mega Zygarde ex

Mega Zygarde ex can be a little bit tricky to understand right off the bat. Looking at its surface-level stats, you might be tempted to think Nullifying Zero is the ultimate attack to pay attention to. However, more often than not, you won’t even be bothering with Nullifying Zero, as its attack is too based on luck to always get right.

Instead, you’ll primarily be leveraging Mega Zygarde ex’s Gaia Wave and the Core Memory attack that is unlocked via this powerful Pokemon Tool.

As you can see from my list, I’m leaning hard into Core Memory as its Geobuster attack is an insane asset to Mega Zygarde ex who can now take down opposing Pokemon at very high levels.

Use Tarragon to retrieve energies

One bummer to the Geobuster attack is that it will quickly use up the energies you attached to your Mega Zygarde ex. However, thanks to the powerful new Tarragon Supporter card released in this set, you can easily put those energies back into your hand from the discard.

Boost attacks with Premium Power Pro

While Mega Zygarde ex is strong enough that you won’t have to worry too much about boosting damage output, having a few Premium Power Pros to reach certain thresholds helps a lot.

Accelerate Energy attachment with Barbaracle

The final piece to the puzzle that really makes this deck work is Barbaracle. Using Stone Arms you can very easily accelerate energy onto your toolbox of attackers and the mighty Mega Zygarde ex itself.

Really, the only issue here is needing to evolve the Barbaracle in the first place. Needing that added step certainly makes Mega Zygarde ex anything but an aggro style deck. Think of it more like a fighting box deck starring the Mega Pokemon ex itself.

Speaking of secondary attackers

One of the biggest advantages of running any fighting type deck right now is how many strong attackers you have access to. While Mega Zygarde is your heaviest hitter, Bloodmoon Ursaluna, Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex, and even Solrock all function as solid secondary attackers. Use them as the situation calls for:

  • Ursaluna can be used in combination with Energy Switch to accelerate energies onto other attackers or as finisher.

  • Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex is an excellent stall attacker when your opponent only has attackers with abilities.

  • Solrock is an excellent early game attacker while limiting liability of a favorable prize trade to your opponent.

While the dominance of Gardevoir ex has long held fighting type decks at bay, thanks to all the consistently strong support added to fighting decks – especially in Perfect Order – fighting box decks like this one featuring Mega Zygarde ex and others are more viable than ever! Enjoy building and playing your own Mega Zygarde ex deck via Pokemon TCG Live, and don’t forget a base version of the strategy will already be available for free thanks to the Perfect Order Battle Pass!
