Morpeko ex Revealed for Pitch Black – Its SIR is a Top Chase

We’ve just been granted our official first look at the anticipated Morpeko ex Pokémon card that will be released with Mega Evolution: Pitch Black on July 17, 2026. While this cute, Dark-type Pokémon is an exciting enough reveal, it silently confirms something even more relevant for collectors: the desirable Morpeko ex Special Illustration Rare released in Abyss Eye is all but a certainty in Pitch Black.

Strategically, Morpeko ex offers Pokémon TCG players a few distinct advantages. For starters, Wheely Draw can be used as a strong opening attack, allowing you to refill your hand and prepare for the onslaught the following turn. Meanwhile, Hangry Blaster is more than just a funny attack name befitting this cute Pokémon: it’s a powerful attack that pairs well with certain cards in the Dark-type’s arsenal that excels at inflicting damage to itself.

Morpeko ex Special Illustration Rare is a top Pitch Black chase card

While Morpeko ex will make a solid pinch hitter for Dark-type decks (like the upcoming Mega Darkrai ex deck), perhaps its greater value is in its Special Illustration Rare form.

While we have yet to see the officially revealed English version of this particular card, getting the Morpeko ex English reveal essentially seals the deal: Morpeko ex SIR will be one of the top chase cards from Pitch Black.

Morpeko has done well when getting gorgeous alternate art cards in the past. Its cuteness combined with its naughtiness is a delightful treat for collectors: especially when the Pokémon is surrounded by sweets – as was the case when the Pokémon was depicted surrounded by sweets back in the cult classic Paradox Rift set.

Already, this much more action-oriented, red-eyed Morpeko SIR is collecting a solid value in the Japanese Abyss Eye set: $68 making it the fourth most valuable card from the set overall. When the set releases in English, you can expect to see that number go higher.
