Prime Day Pokémon Card Deals are Mostly a Bust
Everywhere right now, blogs and websites are touting up Prime Day for supposed deals on Pokémon products. As good as these look on paper, for the most part these deals are largely not Prime Day deals despite how they are being presented, and are instead natural price drops that have nothing to do with Prime Day. When you look at actual Amazon Prime Day deals for Pokémon card products, what you mostly get are deals on binders and supplies (top loaders, storage solutions). That being said, one Charizard deck box did catch my eye.
Ultra Pro 16132 Pokémon Charizard Full View Deck Box – $5.74
While most of the deals you’ll find on Amazon today are going to be for binders and things like that, this is an actual Pokémon TCG deck box you can use to take your favorite deck to your local Pokémon League or just for some cool storage. And it is available at a good price – cheaper than the market price you’ll find elsewhere.
There’s even a matching binder you can pick up – also available with a Prime Day deal for a very reasonable $12.74
Pokemon TCG: 2024 World Championships Deck Jesse Parker - The 'Don $23.48
If you’re looking for something that’s just a little more fun than it is valuable, you can pick up this memorable deck from the Pokémon 2024 World Championship that took place in Hawaii. World Championship decks are excellent because they are built on actual competitive decks, giving you a high level start if you’re new to the game. However, if you’re looking to get into the Pokémon TCG competitively, bear in mind that these are not tournament legal cards – they feature a different card back unique to their year. This makes them somewhat collectible/unique but totally unplayable competitively.
Also a quick note on this product: while it may be available for a decent price for Prime Day, it’s market price via TCGPlayer is actually currently lower.
Deals to avoid: random card lots
Right now the overall pick for Pokémon card deals on Amazon Prime is one for a random, 50-card lost. The above Lightning Deal (available while supplies lasts) promotes:
50 assorted Pokemon cards
Bundle with an LCC deck box that holds upto 100 Pokemon cards
1 Double rare legendary Pokemon card
Is this a good deal?
Don’t be fooled by the picture above, however. Look at the fine print. While this Lightning Deal includes gorgeous cards like the Charizard VMAX in the picture, the fine print states that you will be getting only one “Double Rare legendary Pokémon card.”
Legendary Pokémon card doesn’t actually mean anything in the Pokémon TCG however. That’s not a rarity or anything, but the most telling thing here is the “Double Rare” rarity. Double Rares are the lowest form of “hit” rarity. These are your Pokémon ex, Mega Pokémon ex and so on. Typically, these cards aren’t massively valuable but can make for excellent hits for kids who just want a cool card to play with.
This Morpeko ex from the upcoming Pitch Black set is a “Double Rare”
Bottom line
Skip the assorted lots. These are not official Pokémon card products, lack quality control, and offer little-to-no value for those interested in the Pokémon card hobby.
These are the currently trending Pokémon TCG Prime Day deals! Stay tuned for more updates as they become available and watch out for anyone pointing to big and fancy Booster Bundles or the like: while you can get those on Amazon they may not actually be on sale today.
