October Sword Art Online Collabs Excite Fans with Special Artwork
A brand new collaboration is getting attention from Sword Art Online fans around the world. The collab focuses on a new “Ballet Core Collection” illustration featuring core SAO characters like Kirito, Asuna, Sinon, Eugeo, Yuuki, and Alice. However, it’s not the only collection releasing this month: a highly anticipated special Kirito/Asuna wedding anniversary collection will also be releasing on October 23, 2026.
This “Ballet Core Collection” features Sword Art Online characters in a decidedly more formal look than usual, although just edgy enough to be fun. It’s based on the ballet-core fashion, something which Grok explains as: “taking elements from ballet (the discipline, grace, and clothing) and turns them into everyday fashion. The goal is to look like you just stepped out of a dance studio or are heading to rehearsal, without actually needing to dance.”
Merchandise featuring these new character designs will be on sale for three months via special collaboration in Japan. The collection will also include Chibi versions of these characters – a unique art style that’s popular in Japan that features characters in an extra cute and small fashion.
Sword Art Online gets frequent collabs in Japan
While the Sword Art Online franchise is quieter in North America and other parts of the world (despite getting regular light novel, manga, audiobook and video game releases), it’s on a whole different level in Japan. Stores feature regular collabs with the beloved franchise, often featuring unique character concepts like this one.
Other recent and popular ones include a king/queen chess-themed look for Asuna and Kirito (and others), another from Dengeki Bunko that shows off Asuna playing baseball, a collab with Yuuki Sakuna, as well as many others – all with accompanying merch, of course.
Sword Art Online Merchandise collabs do come to the states – sometimes
And while Japan-based Sword Art Online fans seem infinitely more blessed with local collab/merch experiences, such events do sometimes take place elsewhere. For example, Daiso stores in the US have recently featured SAO-themed merchandise, with a special collab that let you get acrylic standees, buttons, stickers, and more.
I managed to pick up a few of these products earlier this year, including an Agil keychain and the Leafa/Sinon sticker.
An upcoming collab by Bushiroad celebrates Kirito and Asuna’s wedding anniversary
The ‘Ballet Core’ artworks aren’t the only SAO-themed collab coming out this month, however. Another special collection is coming out in just a few days in celebration of Kirito and Asuna’s wedding anniversary: a big celebration among the Sword Art Online fandom.
While exclusive merch themed around Kirito and Asuna’s wedding will be available at a popup shop at the Bushiroad Creative store in Japan starting on October 23, 2026, the Bushiroad Creative website also has these products available for sale. The wedding anniversary collection includes mugs, coasters, art panels, wedding invitations, stands, and more – all themed for the occasion.
While it would be exciting to see frequent collabs like these in US stores, the one silver lining to SAO keeping a lower profile over here is that my pocket book remains much more full than it otherwise would be!
That being said, Sword Art Online has had a solid year with major releases. And who knows – when the anime returns in 2028, maybe we’ll see more merch like this at shops here, too!
