Pokémon 30th Confirmed a Reprint of the Legendary Crystal Lugia
Where is the best place to get classic Pokémon TCG cards – cards like the legendary Crystal Lugia – in a modern pack? Look no further than Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration releasing everywhere on September 16, 2026.
Although teased months ago, we only just had the official reveal of the Classic Collection Crystal Lugia card yesterday.
“Crystal” Lugia Aquapolis reprint confirmed for 30th Celebration
This Crystal Lugia card (named after its Poké-BODY type ability) is a reprint of the iconic Lugia e-Reader card originally released in Pokémon TCG’s second ever e-Reader set, Aquapolis. While we don’t know how valuable this card is going to be yet, it instantly made it onto my list of top 30th Celebration chase cards when it was teased.
To understand why this card reveal is such a big deal, just look at how valuable the original card is.
Most casual collectors aren’t going to have that kind of money to spend on a single card, making 30th Celebration Crystal Lugia a solid alternative. You can get a card that looks the same for a fraction of the value. Sure, it will have the gold border and 30th Pikachu stamp that makes it undeniably a reprint. But it’s still a much lower entry bar for holding a piece of Pokémon TCG history than trying to get hold of the original thing.
Why are e-Reader Pokémon cards so desirable among collectors?
e-Readers have stood the test of time among the most valuable of all vintage Pokémon cards. It was a unique era for the TCG that saw fewer overall cards printed, increasing their demand. It was also the last era that the original Pokémon TCG publisher and distributor, Wizards of the Coast, handled. That adds some nostalgic weight to these particular cards that really do signify an end of an era.
Luckily, the Pokémon TCG was just getting started with the end of the e-Reader era. Of course, it’s gone on to enjoy far greater success in recent years than ever before. And Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration pays homage to this storied past without neglecting to point to a very real and successful future for the game.
