The 30 Most Expensive Prismatic Evolutions Cards
Looking for the most expensive Prismatic Evolutions chase cards of them all?
Prismatic Evolutions is one of the biggest Pokemon TCG sets in recent memory – and its release sent a shockwave through the Pokemon TCG hobby that we still haven’t fully recovered from.
What makes Prismatic Evolutions such an epic set?
For starters, it’s the first expansion since the legendary Evolving Skies to feature the Eevee evolutions (known as Eeveelutions).
Indeed, many of these Eeveelutions are far more valuable than their Evolving Skies counterparts. However, Prismatic Evolutions isn’t just about Eevee. There are plenty of alternate art cards featuring fan favorites from the Scarlet & Violet Era of the Pokemon TCG
Below, I’ll be walking you through the most expensive chase cards in Prismatic Evolutions that you need to know about, based on real sales data!
#1 Umbreon ex – Special Illustration Rare is the Most Expensive Prismatic Evolutions Card
Market price: $1192.30
There’s really no secret as to which of the cards in Prismatic Evolutions is the most expensive: it’s going to be Umbreon ex. Umbreon ex really is the Moonbreon of Scarlet and Violet. Although once worth more than that iconic card from Evolving Skies, today it’s worth about half as much as the Moonbreon.
Still, it really is incredible that there is such a hunger for Pokemon cards today – a fact which shows that the hype for Pokemon cards and TCGs in general wasn’t just a byproduct of the Pandemic. Indeed, more and more it feels like a fact of life that TCGs are here to stay. And that’s good news for Pokemon TCG fans and collectors everywhere – even if it does mean a few gnarly bumps along the way.
#2 Sylveon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $339.62
Umbreon may be the big chase of this set, but Sylveon is pulling its own weight in value. Currently, the love Eeveelution is fetching over $300 on the secondary card market.
Although Sylveon wasn’t as expensive compared to other Eeveelutions in Evolving Skies, in this set it reaches the top of the list in value. I will say that this Sylveon ex artwork goes hard, and is much better than the artwork we got even in Evolving Skies, only lending to its stellar value.
#3 Leafeon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $281.31
Leafeon ex’s special illustration rare artwork would look right at home painted on a medieval church window. Its regal and majestic form works perfectly in this verdant landscape that matches its first attack. Artistically speaking this is likely the best Leafeon we’ve had in any recent set.
#4 Roaring Moon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $244.69
Does Shinji know how to make excellent Pokemon art work or wht?
To be honest with you, this may be one of my favorite artworks of any Pokemon card ever. I mean…saying it’s next level is almost not doing it justice. It almost looks like a woodcut print enhanced with a sketch-like drawing and imbued with incredible colors. It’s absolutely an insane rendition of this Ancient Pokemon that speaks to the very core of what the Ancient Pokemon phenomenon is all about.
You totally feel the terror of letting this Pokemon out on the unknowing world.
It’s crazy that this version of Roaring Moon ex would be so epic when the original SIR of this card released back in Paradox Rift was also quite good. But this one totally blows it out of the water making me wonder – how could so many gorgeous secret rare cards be packed into one set?
#5 Espeon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $214.84
This card just looks really good, with Espeon descending out of the ether surrounded by strange and interesting flowers and patterns that really draw you in visually. Being an Eeveelution in and of itself qualifies this card for top tier status among the chase cards in Prismatic Evolutions. However, the artist for this card didn’t rest on their laurels and instead created an engaging artwork worthy of this set’s hype.
#6 Vaporeon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $211.23
Being one of the original 151 Pokemon, Vaporeon holds a special place in the hearts of Pokemon fans. This card features a combination of the abstract art that is the hallmark of each of these SIR Eeveelution cards with realistic underwater effects as evidenced by the air bubles and ripples of water underneath Vaporeon’s feet. The artwork and popularity of this card really hit home, driving an incredible secondary market price.
#7 Glaceon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $203.48
Even before Prismatic Evolutions released, this Glaceon ex SIR was one of my top picks from the set. Today, it holds up incredible value, and Glaceon is arguably one of the more naturally beautiful of the Eeveelutions – something which lends itself to this card’s value. Given how well the Glaceon VMAX has done over time from Evolving Skies, this could be a great one to bag and add to your collection, and is easily one of the top winter-themed Pokemon cards of late.
#8 Flareon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $173.18
Flareon ex gives off competitive, fiery vibes that illustrate the potential power of this original Eeveelution. Despite being a solid card that would turn heads in any normal set, Prismatic Evolutions isn’t a normal set by any means, and this otherwise worthy chase lands towards the bottom of the top ten in terms of value.
#9 Jolteon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $165.58
Both Jolteon and Vaporeon are Pokemon that did not originally appear in Evolving Skies as alternate art cards. To get them, players had to purchase them in exclusive boxes that were sold separately to the main set. In Prismatic Evolutions, however, they are very much an integral piece of this set.
While Vaporeon’s artwork leans into the watery nature of its typing, Jolteon leans into more obscure but relevant Pokemon lore. In this case, the abstract artwork lends the feeling of movement at great speed to this card. Indeed, Jolteon here appears to be leaping amidst an urban backdrop. That makes sense given Jolteon’s status as the fastest of all the Eeveelutions and is a fitting tribute to this bit of Pokemon lore.
#10 Ceruledge ex Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $125.64
I had really high hopes for the Ceruledge ex deck when it came out. It just seemed really cool and packed a punch based on how much energy cards you had in your discard. While that deck didn’t pan out immediately competitively, overtime people have realized just how strong the deck can be in the Pokemon TCG meta.
This alternate art certainly does the Pokemon justice. Although it’s incredible price point makes it probably not the smartest card to sleeve up in your deck, it’s a solid collection piece that would be particularly adored by the hardest core Ceruledge ex enthusiasts out there.
#11 Eevee ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $121.05
Eevee deserves its place as a top chase card in this set. It’s got solid artwork, and I especially like the floral theming that reminds us of spring – a season undoubtedly Eevee enjoys. This also ties in with Pokemon game lore where Eevee is often found in grassy areas. Apart from all that, Eevee is one of the most recognizable Pokemon of them all, not far beneath Pikachu itself in fame. I would expect this SIR treatment to fair well overtime due to its combination of being part of this memorable set, excellent artwork, and character bankability.
#12 Dragapult ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $88.07
As you will continue to see from the rest of the cards on the top 20 from this set, Prismatic Evolutions really is about more than the Eeveelutions. Like other special Pokemon sets, Prismatic Evolutions also includes alternate artworks for cards already released in previous main sets. A perfect example of this: this Dragapult ex SIR.
Not only does this gorgeous card offer an intriguing alternate look at the Pokemon, Dragaplut ex is also the backbone of one of the very best Pokemon TCG decks. Competitive viability often drives additional value to cards. That combined with its overall looks and high rarity make this card one of the top chases from the set.
#13 Raging Bolt ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $75.71
I also prefer this set’s Raging Bolt ex SIR over the one we got in Temporal Forces. Here we get up-close-and-personal with this vengeful beast that has proven itself to be a major force in the competitive Pokemon TCG scene. This totally looks like a dragon from some mythical story printed in the same iconic and timeless fashion as the more valuable Roaring Moon ex SIR by Shinji.
#14 Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $67.64
There was a time when it felt like every deck wanted to run Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex. While not perhaps as prevalent today as it was in its prime, it’s still a broadly used card. While the original SIR we got of this card featured a relatively tame Bloodmoon, this card goes hard into the darker-side of this Pokemon. The result is a captivating artwork that just looks cool – complete with the Blood Moon in the background that caused this unique Pokemon to evolve!
#15 Umbreon Master Ball Foil
Market price: $66.01
A very exciting addition to Prismatic Evolutions was the inclusion of the special Master Ball pattern found on certain reverse foil cards in packs. As has been discovered by those closely monitoring the pull rates for this set, getting a Master Ball pattern holo foil card isn’t actually crazy rare. However, getting a specific Master Ball pattern is fairly tricky. This means that particularly popular Pokemon like the Eeveelutions get a nice healthy Master Ball tax just from having it included on their card!
While some speculated that the Umbreon Master Ball foil would be even more valuable than the SIR, it turns out to be significantly less valuable in the eyes of collectors while still commanding an impressive price point for a simple foil card with a Master Ball print.
#16 Gholdengo ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $58.17
We see Gholdengo somewhat ironically making it rain. I say ironically because of just how money Prismatic Evolutions is as a set. Still, this is a pretty fabulous, comic book style artwork for a Pokemon that has had a decently large impact on the Pokemon TCG where it rose from an anti-meta deck up into discussions for one of the best decks in the format.
#17 Palafin ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $49.81
The first Prismatic Evolutions card revealed in English is also among its most rare, and that is the Special Illustration rare version of Palafin ex. While Palafin ex is already something of a cult favorite among devoted fans, this card should get extra interest do to the fact that it was illustrated by famous manga artist Tetsuo Hara. To me, this artwork feels very Van Goghesque, and helps elevate the subject matter to something very much worthy of an SIR print.
#18 Iron Valiant ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $48
Here we have the eternally underrated but highly intriguing Iron Valiant ex. From a competitive standpoint, Iron Valiant ex has certainly had its fifteen minutes of fame, such as when it rose to the highest peak in competition not long after it debuted, partnered with the formidable Entei V. While it’s not played competitively these days, it can be mixed with a lot of interesting cards to create fun combos that can totally win you games in the right scenarios.
This card artwork focuses on the Future nature of this Pokemon, blending its sheer strategic prowess with futuristic flare.
#19 Pikachu ex Hyper Rare (Gold)
Market price: $42.89
Umbreon ex may be the ultimate chase of this set, but never forget who the real king of Pokemon is: the fluffy, cute and strong Pikachu! Still, this card is worth surprisingly little given the popular Pokemon’s presence. I guess players liked the gold Pikachu ex from Surging Sparks better!
#20 Iron Hands ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $42.69
It’s hard to create an amazing illustration with Iron Hands as the Pokemon isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing in the world (for the most part looking something like a flying saucer). That being said, this artwork does a solid job depicting it in action looking like it’s hanging out somewhere in Area Zero.
Regardless of how you feel about this Scarlet & Violet era Pokemon, Iron Hands ex as a Pokemon card has had a huge impact on the meta. While it’s signature deck, Future Hands, may not be competitive today, it’s a key component of many competitive Pokemon decks that consistently perform well.
#21 Iron Crown ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $36.54
This Iron Crown ex card looks like an illustration from a Pokemon book from the future. Something which totally makes sense given the subject matter. My favorite aspect of this particular card has to be the color pallet. The artist here uses various shades of blue to tell a visual story that’s quite compelling.
#22 Lacey – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $33.85
Other than an intriguing artwork style that calls to mind the older Pokemon video games, Lacey is a powerful draw supporter who I use specifically in my Hydrapple ex deck to help replenish my hand late in the game. She’s a memorable character from the game and a powerful draw card when used at exactly the right moment (even if I do prefer her SIR from Stellar Crown more).
#23 Terapagos ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $33.19
I’m not exactly sure we needed another Terapagos ex SIR given how gorgeous and valuable the original is – but this one is just as gorgeous while at the same time a bit more up-close and personal. It will undoubtedly be one of the top chase cards from the set, if perhaps not quite as valuable as the one from Stellar Crown.
#24 Janine’s Secret Art – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $31.74
In a lesser set, a card of this quality would be one of the top chase cards. In Prismatic Evolutions, it ends up at the bottom of the top thirty. Still, it’s a very cool card with excellent composition.
#25 Sylveon Master Ball Pattern
Market price: $32.42
Genearlly speaking it’s hard to overhype Prismatic Evolutions. The set really is that big of a deal. One aspect of the set which certainly was overhyped, however, were how valuable Master Ball print pattern reverse holo cards were going to be. While this card’s price point is impressive enough for what the card is, the Master Ball pattern alone isn’t enough to catapult a card to insane value (unless that card is Umbreon).
The rest of the Eeveelution Master Ball pattern cards are worth far less, with the least valuable being the Eevee. Still, not bad for a collection of reverse foils!
#26 Sandy Shocks ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $27.86
While my Koraidon ex deck featuring Sandy Shocks ex never really took off, this impressionistic take on the Pokemon is arguably the better of the two we’ve had to date.
#29 Pecharunt ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $28.69
This Pecharunt ex alt art may look like something a child drew, but that doesn’t make this card any less desirable. Pecharunt ex is largely used in decks that use dark Pokemon, like N’s Zoroark ex deck. Art-wise, my favorite quality of this one is the splash of purple bouncing off the Pecharunt, perhaps symbolizing the Subjugating Chains effect. Or maybe it’s Pecharunt’s infamous Mochi. Either way, the effect works in this fun take on the Pokemon from Kitakami.
#27 Crispin – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $36.57
Another of the laid-back, chillin’ around school collection of the Blueberry Academy Elite Four, Crispin is a solid trainer in-game who seemed to only get more relevant the more powerful Tera Pokemon we got.
#28 Kieran – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $29.28
I like the continuity in this Kieran card. Whereas in the first SIR from Twilight Masquerade featuring the same trainer focused on his demure persona encountered on Kitakami Island, here Kieran has come full circle – a strong trainer with friends not just adversaries. My favorite thing about the Kieran from the Scarlet & Violet Pokemon game is how insanely strong he is, giving you a massively difficult challenge well past beating the traditional Elite Four.
#30 Teal Mask Ogerpon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Market price: $21.74
Teal Mask is a big part of Scarlet & Violet’s Teal Mask DLC, and this card has seen a ton of play in the competitive. It’s the backbone for more than one competitive deck, acting as dual draw engine/engery accelerant for the likes of Raging Bolt and Regidrago VSTAR.
While we have had an SIR print of this card before, that one was very tame in comparison to the gnarly illustration found here.
While Prismatic Evolutions may have temporarily broken the Pokemon TCG hobby, clearly prices have come down for this set to much more ordinary levels. With that being said, the high end Eeveelution chase cards are still worth an incredible amount. That combined with the sheer number of potential hits you can get still make Prismatic Evolutions the best pack you can buy right now.
