Purple Makima Deck List and Guide
Looking for a solid Purple Makima deck list from UNION ARENA: Chainsaw Man to get started?
Chainsaw Man is a fantastic set – ideal for both players just starting UNION ARENA as well as for experienced players looking for challenging and rewarding new strategies to master.
Below, we’ll be looking at a tricky yet powerful deck: Purple Makima. Using Purple Makima, you will be turning your characters into Events – essentially pawns at your disposal to launch your master plan.
The Event deck without Events
Perhaps the strangest thing about the Purple Makima deck is that it’s a deck that puts a huge amount of emphasis on Events without running a large number of them. That is, of course, because of Makima’s main mechanic of turning any of your Purple Character cards into Events.

Makima has a lot packed into one card. But really, she’s not all that complicated to understand. She’s doing just three things:
Turning all purple characters into Event cards wherever they are (hand, sideline, deck etc…)
Letting you free-play any of your characters or events (reduce their AP-cost by 1)
Letting you choose between drawing a card or boosting the BP of one of your characters by an impressive 2000 BP.
Your five-cost Raid Makima works really well with the four-cost Makima.

Because your five-cost Makima makes all Purple characters Events regardless of their location, if you have both of these Raid characters on the field at the same time, you can bring back any character you want to your hand. Four-cost Denji is a fantastic target for this effect.
Play Denji to the front line, switch him to active, use him to block incoming Impact attacks then rinse and repeat!
The other Makima
There is one more high BP Makima to keep in mind, and that’s the four-cost Makima. This character will also magically transform your characters into Events. But that’s not all: she also has the insane capability of granting Impact to any of your characters on your field. That is, as long as you’ve played an “Event” card this turn.
This ability to grant Impact to any character removes the need to field native Impact characters – at least theoretically. Still, I can’t help but feel like if one of the Makima Raid characters also had Impact just as is this deck might feel a little stronger.
Consistency characters
We’ve covered the meat and potatoes of this deck. But a deck is often only as good as its consistency cards. Luckily for Purple Makima, it has plenty in that department.
Your strongest search character is the three-cost Denji.

Denji has the somewhat rare ability of letting you search out any character from the top three of your deck. No name restrictions, affinity restrictions, or anything like that. However, if you use Denji to search out your Makima (which you’ll usually want to), you can boost one of your characters by 1000 BP on your field, playing into that boost and attack strategy that Makima is really looking to unlock.

Another strong consistency card is the one-cost Makima, letting you search the top three cards of your deck, sideline one, and then put the other two back however you want. I find this to be an excellent way to “fix” my next few draws to get more desirable cards in the order I need them.
A Movie Date

Finally, Movie Date can act either as a BP boosting tool or a draw Event, depending on what you need in the moment. Admittedly this card isn’t the strongest thing ever, but being able to draw two cards without expending an AP in most cases is solid enough.
The Angel Devil closer

Finally, this deck has access to a very powerful closing character in the form of Angel Devil.
This guy can chill on your back line until you need him most. Then, he suddenly turns lethal. Push him up to the front line and easily swing with 4000 BP via an attack that can’t be blocked by 4000 BP characters or more.
We are seeing the “can’t be blocked” strategy becoming a staple in most modern UNION ARENA decks, and having this one is a very solid add to Makima’s strategy.
What is Makima missing?
If you’re looking at all of this and thinking to yourself, “Wow, Makima has a lot going for it as a deck,” then you wouldn’t be mistaken. Makima does have a lot of strategic potential. However, it is missing a few key pieces to be truly dominant. The main thing it is missing is removal. Without the ability to remove opposing characters, you have to work a lot harder to swing through them with your BP-boosted characters.
It also lacks a lethal closing move outside of Angel Devil. Whereas similar BP-boosting focused decks like Shadow Army or Purple Song have very powerful characters capable of Snipe/Impact or Impact/Damage 2, Makima relies solely on her BP boosting, with a little Impact granting to help.
In Chainsaw Man Vol. 2 (assuming we get one), if Makima gets a stronger finisher she could become deadly quickly.
Right now, she’s an upper mid-tier deck, not elite.
