The Gundam Card Game is having a huge moment. While the game had a strong initial debut in the summer of 2025, the game fell off the radar a little from a collection standpoint as prices cooled.
That’s all changed, however, with its anniversary set: Freedom Ascension. Indeed, this set is so epic it makes me itch to break my own Gundam decks out again and give some of these new cards a try: especially the SEED cards from my favorite Gundam anime series.
Below, we’ll be looking at each of the most expensive Freedom Ascension cards you need to know about.
#1 Strike Freedom Gundam (LR++)
Gundam SEED is my favorite series within the franchise, and apparently plenty of others as well given this insane price tag for the LR++. Strike Freedom is the iconic Gundam piloted by Kira Yamato. Competitively this card looks quite strong as well, capable of unlocking additional draw while also sending units back to the bottom of your opponent’s deck.
In addition to its strength, collectibility, and the fact it contains such an iconic Gundam and pilot, the Strike Freedom Gundam LR++ has the distinction of being the single most expensive chase from the Gundam Card Game of all time (outside of the very limited Beta print).
#2 Master Gundam (LR++)
In second place we have a still highly valuable chase card for the set, even if it comes in at almost half the price of the legendary Strike Freedom that tops the list. Master Gundam excels at blowing up bases, dealing five damage to the top card on your opponent’s Shield area. This makes it a pretty powerful card into certain matchups, while of course its true value lies in its rarity.
#3 Nu Gundam (LR++)
The next LR++ Gundam hails from the franchise’s early days. And while Nu Gundam may not be the most expensive of the LR++ cards from this set, it’s still easily clearing that $1000 mark, making it an elite chase card in its own right.
#4 Sazabi (LR++)
The last of the LR++ cards on this list, Sazabi is still a highly valuable chase card. It’s also a powerful Gundam, as well – letting you strategically destroy opposing units that the Sazabi isn’t currently engaged in battle with.
#5 Lacus Clyne EX Resource (EXR-009) (C+) (SP)
Ready for the biggest card of the non LR++ category?
While the LR++ are the heavy hitters in this set (clearly), Lacus is the most desirable chase of the single “+” cards. Also hailing from Gundam SEED like Kira, Lacus plays a huge role not only in the original anime but in the hit 2024 film Gundam SEED Freedom. She’s arguably one of the most popular and recognizable characters from the SEED franchise right up there with Athrun, Kira, and Cagalli, and this alternate art card does her incredible justice.
Indeed, it is reminiscent of the Gundam Beta card that features a similar design with Lacus surrounded by cherry blossoms.
While the Gundam Beta card is insanely valuable, players can feasibly pull this lower rarity card – while buying it on the secondary card market is going to come with a significant price tag!
Gundam’s one year anniversary set has launched the card game into the center stage of conversation within the TCG world. While it’s been steadily in the top 10 games in terms of sales on TCGPlayer since it came out last year, it’s ebbed towards the lower end of the list. After the insane popularity and success of Freedom Ascension, however, I would not be surprised to see it trend back up towards the top of the heap.
Gorgeous chase cards, solid mechanics, and a renewed vigor for collectors on the secondary card market show that Gundam is very much a heavyweight in the modern TCG space, regardless of what new titles come out.
