Sousuke Aizen’s Black Coffin BLEACH Vol. 3 Card Will Make You Chant
Spoilers for the hotly anticipated BLEACH: Thousand Year Blood War Vol. 3 set continue to roll in on a daily basis as the set readies for launch in Japan on September 11, 2026. Today’s reveal is a bit tongue-in-cheek: it’s the official reveal of Aizen’s card text as well as a funny Black Coffin Event card that will have you saying a mouthful if Aizen isn’t on the field.
Sousuke Aizen (藍染 惣右介)

Effects:
- Passive: This card cannot be played to the Front L, and cannot be moved to the Front L except by your own effects.
- [On Play] (登場時): Choose up to 1 character on your field other than <Sousuke Aizen> and move it to a different Line.
- [Activate: Main] (起動メイン): If this is on the Energy L, Rest 2 Active characters on your Front L. If you do, move this character to the Front L.
- [On Attack] (アタック時): Draw 1 card.

Kurohitsugi / Black Coffin (黒棺)

Generated Energy: 1 Green
Effects:
- Passive: If you do not have <Sousuke Aizen> on your field, in all zones, this card's name becomes <Seeping crest of turbidity. Arrogant vessel of lunacy! Boil upward and deny! Grow numb and flicker! Disrupt sleep! Crawling queen of iron! Eternally self-destructing mud doll! Unite! Repulse! Fill with soil and know your own impotence! Hado 90: Kurohitsugi>.
- Effect: Choose 1 character on your opponent's Front L with 4000 BP or less, and retire it.
First, let’s talk about Aizen. This card is a huge boon for high energy decks, letting you strategically move characters in and out of the energy line when he is played. He does come with an ability that acts as a double-edged sword, however. While his 4000 BP looks impressive when combined with the two energy generation and only three energy cost, you cannot play or move him to the front line – unless you switch two characters on your front line to resting.
Manage to get him to the front line, however, and you have a solid 4000 BP attacker that lets you draw a card when attacking.
As of right now, not enough is known about BLEACH Vol. 3 to decide how this mechanic will play into the game. Already players in Japan are speculating that Aizen could have something to do with the anticipated new Shunsui deck that’s only been teased via a revealed Raid character.
The Black Coffin Event card will make you chant
The weirder of the two BLEACH Vol. 3 cards revealed today is actually the Black Coffin Event. This high level Kidō spell is easy enough to cast when you are a powerful Soul Reaper like Aizen. However, if you aren’t, then you typically have to do a whole, long chant to cast it.
This works sort of like the hand signs in Naruto if you are familiar with that anime. Weaker ninja – or less practiced ones – need to do the whole mix of complicated signs to use their powerful Jutsu. Stronger ninja can do it without.
The card works the same way: if you have Aizen on the field, you can just call it Kurohitsugi or Black Coffin. If you don’t, you gotta say the whole chant. Just make sure you say it epically and do Aizen justice.
And while there may be more mechanic implications if the Aizen mechanic ends up being really big in Vol. 3, the most important thing here is that if you run into a deck running this card, make your opponent say the chant – the whole chant – if they don’t have the Aizen. It’s only fair.
With the full release of BLEACH Vol. 3 looming in Japan, it looks like we’ll be getting near daily card reveals for the set.
