10 Strongest Demon Slayer Characters, Ranked
Who is the strongest character in Demon Slayer post Infinity Castle?
The immensely popular film not only broke box office records – it gave us plenty of new battles to watch and new skills unlocked by some of our favorite characters. To find out who is the strong of the strong in Demon Slayer, we’ll be taking a look at all the information available to us in the anime to date. While fans of the manga will have a different take on the power levels of our favorite characters, this list will be narrowed specifically to the anime. As the story progresses, we’ll be coming back to this list and updating it with more characters and more powers.
But before we do SPOILER WARNING! If you’ve not seen the entire anime through Infinity Castle, be warned!
#10 Mitsuri Konroji
Konroji had an excellent showing during the Swordsmith Village arc where she fought one of the strongest demons we’ve to date and was able to match his power for most of the fight. While she got worn out towards the end and only managed to survive thanks to Tanjiro taking the demon’s main body out, it still goes to show that Konroji is solid Hashira.
Her main powers lie mostly in her speed and persistence. She’s so fast and skilled with her blade and she possesses an insane physical constitution that is greater than any other character we’ve seen in the show except for maybe Rengoku himself.
#9 Muichiro Tokito
Tokito is one of only two characters we’ve seen take on an Upper Ranked Demon on his lonesome and win. While he does so through great effort and aided by the boost he recieves from his mark, Tokito’s skills are far ranging, allowing him to leverage
Like the mist from which his breathing technique draws its name, Tokito focuses on beffuddling his foes, and then attacking with lightning fast speed and strength at their weakest points. He’s shown incredible calm under pressure, freeing himself from Gyokko’s Demon Art and managing to turn the tables on his foe for a lethal blow.
Tokito is still very young, however – the youngest of the Hashira, meaning he undoubtedly hasn’t even reached peak performance as of yet.
#8 Zenitsu
When Zenitsu gets serious, he really gets serious. As we headed into the Infinity Castle arc, it was quite clear that Zenitsu had found some new sort of resolve and that his clowning around might just be behind him once and for all. Sure enough, we see what new technique he’s been working on in Infinity Castle, and it’s one of the most deadly techniques we’ve seen anyone use in all of Demon Slayer.
Armed now with a second technique, Zenitsu can no longer be brushed aside as a one-hit-wonder, and he’s more than proved himself by being one of the two we’ve seen to date to ever defeat an upper rank demon single handedly.
#7 Hantengu
Hantengu is a very frustrating enemy to battle. While his main body isn’t the strongest, good luck getting to him due to how many different versions of himself he can make to defend himself with. The strongest of these versions is arguably the Zohakuten version, or the embodiment of hate. This guy is seriously strong capable of wielding the power of sound as well as a big multiple headed serpent creature that feels almost unbeatable.
It took many efforts and the combined force of Genya, Tanjiro, Nezuko, Konroji and even Tokito to beat this guy. Watching this fight was not the most satisfying thing ever. It was incredibly frusturating to see the heroes make their way through one of Hantengu’s many versions of himself forged via his Blood Demon Art only to have to face yet another round of his forms.
To make matters worse, Hantengu gets really small for some reason when he’s doing battle with his other forms, making him annoyingly slippery.
#6 Rengoku
Rengoku is an ideal representation of the Hashira fighting at their best and most capable. His power levels are insane, and he has honed his skill to such a fine point that you get the feeling he could go head-to-head with just about anyone out there – demon slayer or demon.
As Akaza himself points out, Rengoku hasn’t even reached his peak yet. Undoubtedly this powerful swordsmen would have been capable of even greater feats had he had the time to further perfect his abilities.
#5 Giyu Tomioka
It’s always been something of a question mark as for how powerful Giyu actually is. We’ve seen him effortlessly dispatch a lower rank demon with a single technique, but beyond that we’ve never seen him operating at full capacity. While he has some personal issues that force him into solitude and previously hampered his skill, it’s quite clear that by the time of the Infinity Castle arc, Giyu is fighting at full power, gaining even more power when he gets his mark.
Powered up with the mark, Giyu is able to go head-to-head with Akaza. In terms of fighting skill, he appears evenly matched with the upper rank demon – even more so than Rengoku was. However, Akaza’s superior, super human levels of regeneration allo whim to edge Giyu out in a battle of attrition, and it becomes clear that Giyu is at the disadvantage before Tanjiro comes to his aid.
#4 Akaza
In terms of raw physical strength, Akaza is probably up there close to the very top in terms of power. However, he has some very big weaknesses that – if exploited – make him vulnerable to defeat. That being said, he’s strong enough to take on Hashira-level enemies and stay ahead, while in the end he is able to even transcend normal demon power levels when he regenerates himself after being beheaded.
Luckily, something stops Akaza from finishing his regeneration after his fight with Tanjiro and Giyu, otherwise it’s quite likely Akaza would have only gotten stronger.
#3 Doma – Upper Rank Two
Doma is one scary powerful demon, and we definitely get the feeling that we haven’t seen him at his worst yet. Blood hungry and menacing, Doma does seem to have something of a soft side for such a powerful demon. He seems to somewhat pity his victims, although maybe that’s just some sort of a front from his cruelty.
Whatever the case, Doma has insane durability, being able to take whatever poison or attack Shinobu throws at him. His most terrifying skill we’ve seen other than his insane durability is his Blood Demon Art that lets him turn his very blood into a poisonous mist that his opponents will breath in – weaknening them for daring to get close enough to attack him.
We have yet to see the full extent of Doma’s powers. Was Shinobu just a particularly good matchup for him? Or is he really just so powerful that he can kill a Hashira and make it look easy? We’ll have to wait and see. But doubtless he is one of the strongest characters in all of Demon Slayer.
#2 Tanjiro
Tanjiro is the somewhat rare Shonen hero who isn’t actually the strongest character within his own universe. For most of the show, that is. However, as of the Infinity Castle film, Tanjiro is quite clearly one of the strongest Demon Slayers around. Not only does he wield the powerful Hinokami Kagura, he takes things a step further by learning how to see the transparent world. This gives him incredible power that’s especially strong against demons who rely on seeing “fighting spirit” to antcipate moves.
What’s more, you get the feeling that Tanjiro is only going to get stronger as time goes by. Who knows what’s in store for him in the next Infinity castle film?
What feat warrants ranking Tanjiro so highly on this list? Well he’s killed one of the strongest demons we’ve ever seen: the mighty Akaza that even Rengoku couldn’t master.
#1 Muzan
Despite being ambushed by the entire combined force of the Hashira, being essentially blown to bits by the trap set by Kagaya, and then being injected with poison intended to curb his imortality and turn him back into a human, Muzan is still hanging on and managing to fight head to head with the Demon Slayers. His powers go well beyond phsyical strength. Indeed, he commands an army of demons who will do his bidding even while he is regenerating. If he manages to regenerate, Demon Slayers and fam are in for a wild ride.
