2026 marks Pokemon’s 30th anniversary. To celebrate, the Pokemon Company International released a video that traces Pikachu’s journey from its original form found in the Pokemon Red and Blue video games all the way to current day. The celebrations will begin starting on “Pokemon Day” which takes place every year on February 27, 2026.

The video made huge waves on social media, with even Logan Paul posting about how nostalgic the video made him feel.

Joe Merrick, the founder of popular Pokemon fan site Serebii.net shared a graphic that showed each and every version of Pikachu from the original Pokemon video games to the present day logo celebrating Pokemon’s 30th.

Interestingly enough, just before Pikachu pops out of the Poke Ball and presents each of these various forms of himself, it first gets in the Poke Ball – an instance that may fans might notice is a little odd since Ash’s Pikachu notoriously refuses to get inside a Poke Ball. Perhaps the Pikachu presented in the video is a more general Pikachu – one that transcends the anime as Pokemon’s immortalized mascot. That would make sense given the franchise has moved on from Ash, with his final season already ended several years ago.

Regardless, the Pokemon fandom is clearly ready for another big celebration, and the Pokemon Company seems ready to deliver on every level, with multiple and noteworthy Pokemon TCG special 30th anniversary products already hinted at.

Pokemon TCG celebrations already leaked ahead of Pokemon’s 30th anniversary

Anticipation for Pokemon’s 30th has already hit the Pokemon TCG world in a big way so far. Earlier this week my story about the leaked Pokemon TCG 2026 Happy Meal made headlines everywhere for its rumored focus on the huge milestone anniversary.

Meanwhile, the Pokemon Company also released images of the special Pokemon Day 2026 exclusive TCG product which features a special Pikachu promo card bearing the 2026 30th Anniversary Stamp.

The special Pokemon Day 2026 Collection will also contain three booster packs from recent sets and an exclusive coin.

Rumors have also circulated that we might be getting a special Pokemon Celebrations Pokemon set this year. This seems highly likely to me as we did get a special set called “Celebrations” back in 2021 to celebrate 25 years of Pokemon. That special set contained reprints of the original base set Pokemon starters Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise, as well as reprints of other beloved Pokemon cards from the ages.

Celebrations was a phenomenally popular set for its time, and booster packs today are very rare, fetching an impressive $20+ market price on the secondary card market.

A similar set in 2026 would be massively popular as hype for the TCG is at an all time high. And with the biggest Pokemon set of all time Ascended Heroes releasing early 2026, it seems we really do have a lot to look forward to from the Pokemon TCG in 2026 which Pokemon itself is calling their “biggest year yet!”.
