The 10 Top Chase Cards from Wisdom of Sea and Sky

Wisdom of Sea and Sky is a pretty huge set featuring 241 new cards themed around the Johto Region – Pokemon’s second generation and a very nostalgic one for many old time Pokemon hunters. Below, we’ll be looking at the top chase cards from Pokemon TCG Pocket: Wisdom of Sea and Sky.

#10 Johto Starter Art Rares

I’m cheating by adding all three alt arts of the starters in one spot on this list, but they are so similar thematically and visually that it feels right. One thing you’ll notice right away is that each starter is relaxing around the house interacting with common household objects that evoke the meaning of the starters.

The Johto starter Pokemon are among the most recognizable from the franchise. As such, they’ll be hot chase cards for collectors. While they may not be as rare as many cards available in the set, nostalgia and gorgeous art combined make these cards highly desirable.

#9 Togepi – Art Rare

#9 Togepi – Art Rare

Togepi, meanwhile, is another gorgeous and memorable card. The shapes and colors mimic the shapes and colors on Togepi itself, making this one of the most memorable Togepi cards to date.

#8 Pichu – Art Rare

#8 Pichu – Art Rare

Despite being the baby form of the most recognizable character in the universe, Pichu is somewhat lesser known. Of course, any Pokemon fan should recognize this little guy, he’s considerably less bankable than many other of Pokemon’s top characters. Yet, his place as a new addition to the lexicon of Pokemon via Johto makes him really pop as included in this set, and the dreamy artwork lends plenty of intrigue to this top notch card.

#7 Tyranitar – Art Rare

#7 Tyranitar – Art Rare

No Pokemon generation is worth its salt without a big, dino-like or dragon-like Pokemon to real in the kiddos. We may be grown up but we still love this guy, and he’s known as one of the strongest Pokemon from Johto generally speaking.

#6 Espeon ex – Special Art Rare

#6 Espeon ex – Special Art Rare

You know a set is absolutely epic when an Eeveelution alt doesn’t make it straight into the very top of a list of chase cards. The Wisdom of Sea and Sky is that kind of a set. Espeon is particularly well-suited for the set as Johto was the first time you could evolve an Eevee into the psychic type Espeon.

#5 Ho-Oh ex – Immersive Art

Lest we forget, Ho-Oh is the first legendary Ash ever sees leaving Pallet town for the first time. Talk about a spoiler! At that time Johto was a long ways off. However, the rainbow bird does command a special place in history thanks to its ties to the earliest days of the franchise.

#4 Lugia ex – Immersive Art

Of the two legendary birds released in the Johto region, Lugia ex is by far my favorite. And that’s probably partly to do with the fact that the epic 2000s Pokemon film featured this legendary creature. While there are many gorgeous Lugia cards from over the years (with my favorite still being from Silver Tempest), this alt art is certainly up there among the best.

#3 Ho-Oh ex – Crown Rare

There are many different versions of Ho-Oh ex in this set, but the top chase is certainly the Crown Rare Ho-Oh ex.

#2 Lugia ex – Crown Rare

Likewise, the Lugia ex Crown Rare will be one of the very top chase cards for many. Despite being harder to pull, I prefer the artwork for the lesser rare version of this card. But the epic nature of pulling such an incredibly rare card will propel this guy a long, long ways in the eyes of Pokemon collectors.

#1 Umbreon ex – Art Rare

This one is a little bit of a dark horse – or maybe a “dark chase” – but you can never count an Umbreon alt art out. The Special Art Umbreon ex will drive people absolutely crazy as it always does. I could go on and on about this point, but let’s just say that if any card is bankable in the Pokemon TCG universe, it’s Umbreon.
