Your First Look at the Naruto Card Game
Stoked about the upcoming Naruto Card Game? Announced last month by Bandai, the Naruto Card Game features everyone’s favorite ninja and will be releasing in the summer of 2027.
Bandai just dropped a ton of info for this game, including a first look at its cards, mechanics, and more.
Given everything revealed, it feels pretty certain the Naruto card game is destined for greatness. With a battle system that feels exciting, and cards that are more than electrifying, the TCG world is about to get everything they’ve wanted – if not a little more.
The Naruto Card Game – first ever cards revealed
While technically speaking the Chakra card getting handed out at Gen Con was the first card revealed, Bandai has just dropped a look at the first batch of cards for the Naruto Card Game.
Naruto Uzumaki character card reveal
The very first card officially revealed for the Naruto Card Game is the heavily teased Naruto Uzumaki card himself. This card artwork says it all: gripping, heavily stylized, and featuring Naruto using his iconic Rasengan attack – this card gives us a heavy dose of what to expect from this instantly iconic game.
More Naruto cards revealed
Naruto wasn’t the only card spoiled as part of today’s info dump: many more iconic characters were revealed and their artworks are just as enticing. True Naruto fans will surely shiver a little at the look of some of these cards, including:
Sasuke Uchiha
Sakura Haruno
Naruto Uzumaki
Boruto Uzumaki
Jiraiya
Tsunade
Orochimaru
Itachi
These are indeed some of Naruto’s most iconic characters – with the notable exception of Kakashi. Perhaps he’ll have a later set featured around him, or they are saving the best for last?
The Naruto Card Game will include special manga art cards
As if the cards above weren’t enough to send your head spinning, Bandai has also revealed that the upcoming card game will feature cards with art from the manga: a type of card that is insanely popular and valuable in Bandai’s other top-tier card game: One Piece.
Two manga art cards have been revealed, including Naruto and Sasuke and two of their most defining moments from the anime.
Naruto Card Game – card types and mechanics
While a more detailed look at how the Naruto Card Game is played will likely be coming later, Bandai did share several key aspects of how the game will work.
Like in the One Piece Card Game, decks will be built around a Leader card. Character cards will be the same color as that leader, and will also feature super powerful EX Characters.
Decks will have fifty cards plus one leader, five Chakra cards that you will use to play supporting cards (like Ninjutsu), and one Summon card that you will use to play character cards onto the battlefield.
Additionally, it looks like you will be able to interact with your opponent during their turn, as facedown characters will be able to be activated in response to their actions.
Games will end when one player’s Leader’s life is brought to zero.
Jutsu plays a central role in the Naruto card game
While character cards will play a big role in the Naruto Card Game, Jutsu feels like the central mechanic that will determine how you win a game. Character cards have special Jutsu abilities and unique effects that you can use to turn the tide of battle, just like in the anime.
Characters can even be played from the support area using Chakra, putting a heavy emphasis on strategy and cunning to defeat your opponent.
Battle across all three eras of Naruto
Lastly, Bandai revealed that the Naruto Card Game will include all three eras of Naruto: the original Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, and Boruto Next Generations.
It’s likely that all three of these eras will be included roughly at the same time given we’ve already had a preview of a Boruto card revealed. However, we’ll have to wait and see to know for sure.
Clearly the Naruto Card Game is living up to the hype. With fun mechanics and gorgeous cards, this game is about to absolutely wreak havoc on the TCG industry in the best possible way. I just can’t wait until summer 2027 – stay tuned for all Naruto Card Game updates on this blog!
