New Stadium in Delta Reign Brings Back a Legendary Mechanic to the Pokémon TCG
Split Stadium cards are one of the biggest and most unique mechanics coming out in the upcoming Delta Reign set releasing on November 6, 2026. But what if one of these Stadiums brought back one of the most meta defining mechanics in recent Pokémon TCG memory?
The entire main card list for Pokémon TCG: Storm Emeralda (releasing on July 31, 2026) has been revealed, and with it the pieces are falling into place for our own Delta Reign set. And while there are many cards among those revealed to be excited about – including a Mega Rayquaza ex I’m very much looking forward to playing – one of the most astounding of all is a Split Stadium that brings back a mechanic we haven’t seen in a Stadium since Path to the Peak rotated out of the Standard Format.
Legendary Lava Cavern is the new Path to the Peak
Called Legendary Lava Cavern (or something like that – we won’t know its official name until its English card is revealed), this epic looking magma battlefield – complete with Growlithe, Magmar Steelix and Heatmor staring each other down – essentially brings back the iconic Path to the Peak Stadium effect that was once the absolute bane of the Pokémon TCG.
Translated, the text reads:
“Evolution Pokémon in play (both yours and your opponent’s) have no Abilities.”
This is a very similar ability to Path to the Peak, only it removes abilities from all Evolution Pokémon rather than all Pokémon with a Rule Box. This could actually be a good thing as it puts pressure on powerful Evolution decks without crippling Basic decks that rely on Pokémon like Meowth ex to keep their engines going.

How effective will a connected stadium be?
It’s not at all an overstatement to say that Legendary Lava Cavern could massively shake up the Pokémon TCG Standard format. For example, most of the top Pokémon TCG meta decks right now rely on abilities in some shape or form. Even Dragapult ex relies on Drakloak’s Recon Directive to enable consistency.
The only problem here is that you’ll need two halves of the Stadium card in your hand in order to play it. That does drastically limit its potential. One of the strongest things about Path to the Peak when it dictated the meta was that you could run four of them in your deck to shut off unwanted abilities.
This ensured that even when your opponent removed it from play, chances were solid you could find another when you need it.
Just how effective will a Stadium like this be when you need two different cards in hand just to play it? I’m not too sure. But regardless, it will be a huge talking point for players who have been wanting something like this in the game virtually ever since Path to the Peak left.
