Mega Attack Rare Rayquaza, Darkrai, Greninja, Zygarde ex Cards Revealed
I mean…who doesn’t want a Rayquaza Mega Attack Rare card?
During Pokémon’s incredible closing ceremony for Worlds 2026, several massive announcements were made, including an all-new anime film focused on the Pokémon TCG, a new Pokémon TCG series called ex★, Z Mega Evolutions, and the fact that we’ll be getting four stunning new Mega Attack Rare Pokémon cards featuring Mega Zygarde ex, Mega Greninja ex, Mega Darkrai ex, and Mega Rayquaza ex.
Why these Mega Attack Rare cards are a big deal
Normally, these reveals would be enough to drive people nuts just by themselves. However, so much was revealed alongside them that you almost got a bit of whiplash.
But seriously: just look at these cards. Each one features never-before-seen illustrations of this year’s biggest Pokémon chase cards. Each showrunner for each main set of 2026 is included, complete with their Mega Attack written in bold letters.
As is the case with previously released Mega Attack Rare cards, the Japanese cards will include their Mega Attacks in big English letters, while the English cards will include the same attack name in Japanese.
It’s a fun way to tie the two distinct but very vital worlds of Pokémon together.
How valuable will these Mega Attack Rare cards be?
Yet despite how good-looking these cards are, they’re not necessarily massive chase cards on the same caliber as a Special Illustration Rare.
While their value on the secondary market will vary from card to card with Mega Rayquaza at the top of the list, and Zygarde likely at the bottom, they’ll still likely be a far cry from their SIR counterparts.
For example, one of the most iconic chase cards of the Mega Evolution era, Mega Gengar ex Special Illustration Rare from Ascended Heroes is worth magnitudes more than its relatively cheap Mega Attack Rare version.

The reason for this has to do with preference and the principles of supply and demand. SIR cards are far more rare, and perceived as being more valuable/desirable by the general fanbase, making Mega Attack Rare cards an exciting secondary chase, but not the main target for most collectors.
But looking at these cards, I don’t really care about all that. I’d be stoked to get my hands on a Mega Attack Rare Mega Rayquaza ex, whatever the perceived market value may be.
When will the new Mega Attack Rare Zygarde, Greninja, Darkrai, and Rayquaza release?
Here’s where things get a little murkier: when will we actually be able to get these newly teased Mega Attack Rare cards featuring Mega Zygarde, Mega Greninja, Mega Darkrai, and Mega Rayquaza?
To put it bluntly: we don’t really know. They’re from a Japanese set that’s not been officially announced yet, although it’s likely it will be the equivalent of a special set releasing in February of next year – one that reportedly will include Mega Raichu X & Y.
Because of the worldwide simultaneous release of Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration, the typical release cadence between Japanese and International sets is slightly thrown off-balance, making it harder to predict when sets will release for the time being.
That being said, we’re probably going to get a Special Pokémon TCG set early 2027 like we usually do. It would make sense for that Special set to include these Mega Attack Rare cards the way Ascended Heroes did. In fact, Ascended Heroes is the set that debuted the Mega Attack Rarity, while a Mega Charizard X ex promo teased the concept months before.
