Why Solo Leveling is The Most Hyped UNION ARENA Set to Date
We’re just days away from the early release of what’s easily building up to be UNION ARENA’s most hyped set to date by a mile: Solo Leveling. Releasing on March 20, 2026, Solo Leveling gets a lot of things right – as well as being based on an insanely popular anime.
So what is it about UNION ARENA: Solo Leveling that’s driving collectors and players crazy? Well…it starts with a renewed focus on the English version of the game.
How hyped is UNION ARENA: Solo Leveling?
Before getting into the why, you might be wondering: how hyped is Solo Leveling really? As with any indicators, there are many indicators as to how much hype there is for any given set.
The biggest indicator? Reaction in the market.
And Solo Leveling is having an unbelievably outsized impact on the secondary card market – where products are bought and sold directly by and to consumers.
Last week, I shared data on the prerelease market value for Solo Leveling booster boxes via my X account, and the post went absolutely viral.
As you can see in the above embedded post, at the time of sharing that screenshot, a single Solo Leveling Booster Box was going for $250 – well above the suggested retail price of roughly $80.
Now it’s important to know what market price is so you don’t think this is some sort of hoax or scammers attempting to sell something for more than it is worth – a common occurance in the TCG world (unfortunately).
Market price is the actual price a product is selling for backed by real sales data. Meaning that $250 price tag is essentially a booster box’s real value as dictated by the market.
Since then, booster boxes have only increased in value, although they’ve seemed to have plateaued at their current market value which is around $270 on TCGPlayer.
UNION ARENA: Solo Leveling’s current market price is unprecedented
Just for context on why that $270 market price is such a big deal – UNION ARENA booster boxes are quite a bit smaller than comparable booster boxes in other games. They contain only 16 packs and as such they have (once again) a lower MSRP at roughly $80.
The current market markup price is a pretty astounding 238% – something which is unheard of in UNION ARENA to date. Even the massively hyped Perfect Order Pokemon TCG set (which releases around the same time) doesn’t have that kind of a markup. On a per capita basis, you could right now say that this UNION ARENA set is even more hyped than Pokemon’s main release.
UNION ARENA market prices are going up across the board
I shared news of Solo Leveling’s insane hype came not long after sharing the insane market price Kagurabachi’s SR*** card is getting: one well above what the standard for similar cards has been to date in UNION ARENA.
Indeed, across the board UNION ARENA prices seem to be improving well – as a general observation. Now, for those in the broader TCG world, this might be surprising. Up until now, UNION ARENA has been considered a “niche” TCG. People talked about it as “that game with the screenshots” that played second fiddle to Bandai’s other main games.
However, to me, this hype isn’t really surprising at all.
UNION ARENA hype isn’t just due to scalpers
I’ve been covering UNION ARENA seriously ever since it first came out in the West, and although I’ve never seen hype like this heading into any set, I’m not surprised to see it. I’ve believed in UNION ARENA as a game since the start. Truly, how could a game like this with some of the biggest anime IPs in existence and backed by Bandai’s marketing/distribution power not be successful?
Not only does UNION ARENA have the IP power behind it of the biggest anime in existence, it’s backed by incredibly fun game play with plenty of incentives to play at the local, regional, and even national level (all of which I’ve done).
And Bandai seems to know it – at Bandai Card Fest in Vegas, UNION ARENA was everywhere – alts, products for purchase, and the first ever Championship. It didn’t feel like a side game. It felt like a main character.
While many will ascribe UNION ARENA’s newfound hype as being thanks to the rise of what have become known as “Bandai Scalpers,” I would posit something else is also at play here. Maybe UNION ARENA is simply hitting its stride?
But saying that is one thing. Let me now show you why the hype is so big based on the facts.
Why Solo Leveling is the spark to light the UNION ARENA fire
Again – while most will ascribe this hype to scalpers – and that does play a role – it’s about so much more. Indeed, UNION ARENA as a TCG has been underrated to date but should have this attention – it has the biggest IPs in anime, gorgeous alt cards, insanely valuable chase cards, and fun gameplay. Solo Leveling is just the spark to light the fire that was building all along.
Let’s break down why Solo Leveling is such a hyped UNION ARENA set.
Solo Leveling is the first “English Version” first set
One important thing Solo Leveling is getting right in a big way for a UNION ARENA set is that it’s the first English Version set to come out ahead of Japan. What I mean by “English Version first” is that it literally is coming out in the English version ahead of getting released in Japan.
But it’s not just this literal English-first release date that’s a big deal: it’s also granting additional nods that the North American market will appreciate. For example, SR** and SR*** cards are going to have signatures printed on them from the English anime cast versus the original Japanese voice cast.
While many hardcore anime fans watch their favorite anime shows in the original Japanese audio, many Western fans also like to watch anime with the English dub (myself included). These fans will certainly appreciate hand signatures of the voice actors they know and love versus hand signatures from the Japanese cast that they may not be familiar with.
It was a smart move on the UNION ARENA team’s part and it gets even better when you look at the top chase cards from the set that are really driving excitement for the set.
Solo Leveling has two exciting epic chase cards
The other thing adding further fuel to the Solo Leveling-ignited fire are these two epic chase cards that you can actually pull (although incredibly rare) from packs.
While a typical UNION ARENA set will sometimes boast one serialized card, Solo leveling is getting two serialized cards that are hand signed by the English cast.
If you notice that “NO.000” in the top right corner – that’s the card’s serial number. For those unfamiliar, Serialized cards are a special, limited print run of cards that contain actual numbers attached to them. Effectively that makes each one of these cards “one of kind.” Serialized cards are the ultimate chase card in UNION ARENA (I’ve pulled one and sold it for a lot of money although with the current hype you can get as much as $4,000+ for a Serialized). Also bearing a handwritten signature adds huge value to these cards, making them likely the most valuable of all Serialized cards to date.
And while these hand-signed, gold-toned APs have been a staple in UNION ARENA’s Japanese sets for a while, Solo Leveling marks their highly anticipated debut.
Starting to see what all the hype is about?
The insane Solo Leveling hype isn’t manufactured hype – it’s mainstream eyes seeing what UNION ARENA collectors and players have been seeing and loving since the game released in 2024.
Combine Solo Leveling’s top status as an anime right now with these insane, English Version-centric cards, and UNION ARENA’s overall growing appeal as well as admittedly some opportunistic buying (i.e. scalpers) and you have the perfect environment for what we are seeing: a veritable inferno that’s been building for over a year since the game’s launch, ignited by one set that’s a little too hot to handle.
