Dark Tyranitar Confirmed for ‘30th Celebration’ Classic Collection
The first Classic Collection card in months has been officially revealed for the Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration set releasing on September 16, 2026, and it’s Dark Tyranitar.
Complete with the gold border to show this card’s special place among this set’s “Classic Collection,” Dark Tyranitar – originally released way back in the 2004 EX Team Rocket Returns set – looks poised and ready for action. And that’s pretty fitting given how popular this card is bound to be.
Dark Tyranitar – the first Classic Collection card revealed in months
If you haven’t heard already, the Classic Collection is a subset of cards not included in either the 30th Celebration main set or its over-numbered secret rare list. Instead, it works as a parallel set, much the same way it did back in 2021 when Celebrations came out.
And while this is the first time we’ve seen Dark Tyranitar “officially” revealed with its gold bordering, Pikachu 30th stamp and all, we’ve essentially known what the entirety of the Classic Collection lineup would be for 30th Celebration for some time.
The Classic Collection card list was teased rather than officially confirmed via a video on an official Japanese Pokémon website. While this granted us knowledge of which classic cards would be reprinted, it did not display them in all their glory. Also, the initial reveal that did share a few Classic Collection cards with their stamps happened several months ago, making this Dark Tyranitar announcement a breath of fresh air.
How valuable will the Classic Collection Dark Tyranitar be?
Some Tyranitar cards can possess healthy value. Yet despite being a Johto-era Pokémon, it’s not necessarily the most bankable. Indeed, even this card’s original is not quite clearing $100 on the secondary market.

While some of the hype for Pokémon’s 30th could add to the card’s value, ultimately this one feels more about the fun of collecting than purely a top tier chase to attempt to bag.
Gimmighoul also revealed
While getting another confirmed Classic Collection card is the bigger story by far, yet another 30th Celebration main set card was leaked from Japan: Gimmighoul.
