Paradox Rift Card List and Review

Paradox Rift is the best expansion to come out of Pokemon TCG Scarlet and Violet. It has gorgeous artwork, impactful new strategies and mechanics to try, and a host of rare cards any Pokemon card collector would want to get their hands on.

In this detailed Paradox Rift card list, we share the highs and the lows of the set, and every single card from Paradox Rift for you to browse through.

Paradox Rift card list – grass type Pokemon

Paradox Rift’s grass type Pokemon don’t have a lot to brag about. It’s a shame because there hasn’t been a powerful grass type deck archetype in Pokemon TCG in a long time. The main highlight has to be Froslass ex. However, its Evanescent ability isn’t quite useful enough to justify its weak attack.

Paradox Rift fire type card list

Fire type Pokemon are grossly underutilized in the Pokemon TCG competitive scene, despite strong support for fire. That being said, Chi-Yu is a pretty cool card and can be quite effective in pre-release decks, while Armarouge ex actually has a pretty powerful ability, despite the fact nobody seems to be playing it.

Lastly, Iron Moth is included a lot of prerelease decks, yet I find it’s ability not really worth it.

Paradox Rift water type card list

The water type Pokemon cards in Paradox Rift are when things start getting interesting. While there is a lot we could say here – Octillery has a strong draw support ability and Milotic has an intriguing ability – the cards that really stand out here are Garchomp ex and Iron Bundle. Iron Bundle is actually quite an effective card and could be paired with the right kind of deck (maybe Snorlax Stall) to keep your opponent off balanced.

Garchomp ex’s attack, however, is intriguing because it could be used to snipe many Pokemon. However, despite how much potential there is here, these water type Pokemon have failed to make much of a splash on the competitive scene.

Electric Pokemon – Paradox Rift Card List

The really strong card from this list of electric Pokemon in Paradox Rift is Iron Hands ex. Iron Hands ex has had a huge impact on the Pokemon TCG meta, getting added to top tier Pokemon decks including Miraidon ex, Chien-Pao ex, and even Lost Zone Box. With an attack that enables you to draw an extra prize card, of course players would be excited to push it to its limits.

Oh, and I think Elekid has a pretty cool attack.

Paradox Rift Psychic Pokemon – Card List

The Psychic Pokemon from Paradox Rift are seriously cool. Xatu has an ability that lets you accelerate energies and draw cards, and it’s horribly under utilized in competitive play. Meanwhile, we also have Iron Valiant ex here, with an ability that lets you place damage counters strategically to whittle away opposing Pokemon.

Last but not least, Scream Tail is a powerful boon to Gardevoir ex decks, enabling them to snipe the bench and do damage at will to virtually anything within reach.

Paradox Rift fighting type Pokemon cards

Fighting type Pokemon are largely overlooked in the current Pokemon meta, thanks partly to the continued dominance of Mew VMAX and even Gardevoir ex. That being said, there are a few strong Pokemon cards you should notice here. Namely, Toxtricity ex has a really powerful attack. However, my personal favorite is actually Slither Wings – a card which is incredibly deadly in sealed pre release formats.

Dark type Pokemon cards in Paldean Fates

Roaring Moon ex is the single strongest card to come out of Paradox Rift, not just among the dark type. For more on what Roaring Moon ex can do, see our deck guide. Apart from Roaring Moon, Morpeko is also a frequently used card, as is Morpeko as a supporting Pokemon to Roaring Moon ex.

Steel type Pokemon – Paradox Rift card list

Of the steel type cards in Paradox Rift, the most effective is Jirachi. We called Jirachi to be one of the most meta changing cards in Paradox Rift. Lately, it’s been included in a top notch deck that won a regional in Texas featuring Charizard ex. What makes Jirachi so good is that it single handedly blocks one of the biggest loopholes in Pokemon TCG right now – placing damage counters. While it won’t stop it in all scenarios, the most rampant example – Sableye from Lost Origin – is stumped by this card.

Beyond Jirachi we have Gholdengo ex. This deck has been played quite often online, but has yet to see any wide scale competitive success at major events.

Paradox Rift Dragon Type Pokemon

Paradox Rift has only two dragon type Pokemon cards, and neither of them are particularly noteworthy for players.

Altaria

Altaria ex is the first of the dragon type. And as much as we love Altaria (and the special illustration rare form of this card is seriously cool), Humming Heal is not enough of a draw to run this stage one Pokemon whose attack only does 140 damage.

Tatsugiri is dragon Pokemon number two from Paradox Rift, and actually it has a pretty cool attack. However, needing to waste an attack to search your deck for cards is not a viable strategy competitively. Paradox Rift did not do a lot to add viable dragon types to the game. However, with the likes of Giratina VSTAR running around, maybe that’s not a big deal.

Paradox Rift colorless Pokemon cards list

The colorless Pokemon from Paradox Rift haven’t seen much play competitive. However, the Bombirdier ex card has a ton of potential, with an attack that basically functions like a Battle VIP pass. If this were an ability instead of an attack, it would have seen a ton of play.

Paradox Rift Trainer card list

Paradox Rift brought a ton of new mechanics and powerful Trainer cards into the Pokemon TCG standard format. New TMs brought a whole new strategy into play with dire consequences for top Pokemon decks while Ancient/Future cards bring back a similar gameplay tactic as the old Rapid Strike/Single Strike one.

More generally speaking, Counter Catcher is a powerful new item that can be used by any number of decks, while Earthen Vessel has changed the game by making energy search also accessible for almost every deck.

Paradox Rift Secret Rare Card List

Paradox Rift has an exceptionally beautiful range of secret rare cards for collectors to hunt for. For collectors, this is the big driver for the buying Paradox Rift packs. I won’t say a lot more about these cards here other than that – read our guide for a detailed breakdown of the most valuable Paradox Rift secret rare cards.
