New Pokémon 30th ‘Lonely Pikachu’ Card Might Be More Tragic Than You Think
Pikachu is playing a huge role in the Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration, releasing worldwide on September 16, 2026. New Pikachu ex, Futuristic Rares, and a special collection of 30 unique Pikachu cards – each with a special “fireworks” foil pattern across the entire card – add excitement to the already monumental set.
Today, the Pokémon Company revealed three more special Pikachu cards for you to try and catch.
The Lonely Pikachu
The first Pikachu we’ll be looking at is – I hate to say – potentially tragic. While at first this Pikachu looks cute the way it’s clutching the Poké Ball pillow, there might be a more tragic take to this particular artwork.
If you look at the picture hung just above the Pikachu’s head to the left from our point of view, we see a Pichu clinging to a trainer’s shorts leg, an undeniably content look on its face.
Is this perhaps a picture of a time long ago when Pikachu was just a baby Pokémon and happily on adventures with a trainer who has since moved on?
The lonely vibe – encapsulated in the “Lonely Gaze” ability – seems to suggest something deeper going on than a temporary solitude.
Pikachu on the go
Next up we have a picturesque Pikachu that’s anything but melancholic. This Pikachu is dashing through a vibrant plain filled with energy and life. It’s headed somewhere interesting, only where it will go we can’t really know. Meanwhile, the pink color to the grass serves to add a sense of surrealism to the picture – almost like Pikachu is running through a dream.
The Hungry Pikachu
The last of the three Pikachu officially revealed today is the hungry Pikachu. This Pikachu is delightedly stuffing its face full of Pokémon berries. The artwork of the Pikachu itself is decidedly cartoonish – the lines of its face stretch in comedic proportions to portray just how hungry and content to be eating good food this particular Pikachu is.
Need more convincing that this artwork is all about delight? Just look at that attack: “Satisfied Spark.” It truly says it all.
As Pokémon’s most recognizable mascot, it’s no wonder Pikachu would play such a central role in this set. What is more surprising, however, is just how wide a range this lovable Pokémon can portray.
