UNION ARENA: Every Attack on Titan Deck, Ranked
Ready to battle it out with your favorite Titans on the UNION ARENA battlefield? Then you are in luck because we now have Attack on Titan decks to contend with in the best anime IP brawler. And you’re even more in luck because most of the decks in this set are exciting, with the top three being very, very strong. The meta will certainly feel the rumbling from this set as it makes its way into the game. But which AOT deck will reign supreme?
Below, I’ll be ranking every new Attack on Titan deck from weak to strong, starting with…
#6 Zeke Beast Titan Deck
Starting this list off with the weirdest deck from all of the Attack on Titan set: the Zeke Beast Titan deck. This deck really stands out amongst AOT decks largely thanks to its relative lack of synergy compared to the relatively tight-knit combos youc an pull off with the others.
From the get-go, Zeke feels like a deck destined for the budget shelf – something put together from the scrap heap of booster pack pulls players favored with other decks much higher up on the list. However, that’s not to say this deck doesn’t have some merits.
On that note, it’s strongest card is arguably Rod Reise. This guy is actually pretty good, and would do wonders if it was included in another deck. However, as a Raid character, having only one Raid target somewhat limits its effectiveness. That beings said, being only a four-cost that boosts to 6000 BP with Damage 2 base is pretty incredible. Your opponent only needs to have an active character in play for this effect to work, making them think very carefully about how they want to work around him. Also, when he is sidelined you get to draw a card.
Otherwise, the swarm and attack with additional BP and Impact granted from the Beast Titan just doesn’t feel strong enough to make this deck a serious contender in the UNION ARENA meta. The closest deck to compare this one to that comes to mind is the Green Yamato deck from BLEACH. However, that deck even was stronger than this one, making Green Zeke feel like a deck sorely in need of a Volume 2 to make it even relatively viable.
#5 Red Eren and Friends Aggro
If you’re looking for a deck that’s relatively easy to upgrade from the starter deck, then the Red Aggro deck is the one you’re going to want to watch for. It reminds me of a lot of the other red aggro decks we’ve seen in past sets – decks which similarly focused on the interplay of a core group of friends (think the JJK Sorcerer’s build or the Demon Slayer Red Zenitsu deck). This one does have a few added tricks up its sleeve, however. Like the four-cost Eren from the starter deck that lets you re-stand an AP while also drawing a card.
However, the deck’s main mechanic has to do with bouncing your own cards to the hand – a first for a deck in the UA English version game. Bouncing cards via the Eren from the booster pack can help you draw cards, or unlock multi-attack combos.
As far as Red aggro decks go, this one is neither the best nor the worst we’ve seen, and could be a fun one for those looking for a fast play style.
#4 Green Marleyan Warrior Deck
Green Marleyan Warriors may look a little lackluster compared to the top three decks in this set, but when you look at it on its own for what it is it’s doing a lot of unique things we haven’t seen before. My favorite two cards are the Colossal Titans.
The smaller six-cost Titan is a powerful character to have on the field. While it might reduce the number of cards you can field – thereby presenting holes in your defenses, the 5000 base BP is handy, and even more handy is the When Played sideline a site effect.
Meanwhile, the ten-cost Colossol Titan is very unique. Complete with 6000 BP, it clears out all opposing characters with zero-cost – an ideal way to counter your opponent’s aggro threat. Meanwhile, coming in with a Damage 3/Impact 1 hit is going to be very uncomfortable for your opponent to deal with.
Of course, you’ll need a little added help to reach that 10 energy cost, so luckily this deck gives you plenty of ways to do that including characters that generate energy while on the front line, and the solid Annie Raid to reduce the cost of Marleyan soldiers by 1.
It’s not a deck that’s likely to blow away the competition but I could see this one being a ton of fun to run, kind of like the Green Saitama from One Punch Man.
#3 Blue Astoria Deck
Astoria is another Event-focused deck, and possibly the strongest we’ve seen so far in UNION ARENA. There’s some serious payoff included in this deck for having a bunch of events in your discard. The biggest payoff arguably is the fact that you gain some insane AP the likes of which we’ve not yet seen in the English version of the game. While the Yellow Psychic Sisters comes close, in this deck you have multiple cards capable of re-standing AP whenever you play an event, giving you many, many more options than is usual to choose from.
As if that weren’t enough, you also have some pretty incredible draw capabilities thanks to cards like Cleanup, Memory, and even the Jaw Titan.
While perhaps not quite S-tier material, Historia will likely be a contender in the upper levels of competition, and should be a major threat in the Rare Battle format.
#2 Red Eren Jaeger Deck
Of course Bandai gave some heavy hitting potential to our main protagonist/antagonist Eren Jaeger. This deck looks totally sick with some insane power behind it, especially thanks to the Attack Titan. True to lore, the Attack Titan gets stronger the more damage you’ve taken. The threshold you are looking for with this deck: you are wanting three life or less to access your strongest abilities.
Essentially, this deck works like a lot of high energy decks out there, giving you a solid Raid option at six energy cost, and a far more deadly one at eight.
While these cards are thematically similar, they each offer unique advantages. Generally speaking I love the lower your life to gain abilities mechanic in UNION ARENA. As far as those sort of decks go, this is certainly among the strongest we’ve seen so far. Here are a few highlights for why these two Attack Titans are so strong:
Quickly clear chump blockers to force blocks with stronger characters.
Threaten multiple attacks with a damage 2 character in a single turn.
While the eight-cost for the bigger Attack Titan feels a bit high, given the payoff and the fact you have a Site that generates three energy permanently, it should be relatively easy to get this guy off.
#1 Levi Blue Deck
True to form, the Captain Levi deck looks bonkers. Being able to reliably attack three times in a turn with the final attack being a Snipe attack is absolutely insane. Not to mention you have some additional removal thanks to the five-cost Levi. You never know how these things are going to go, but my best prediction for the UNION ARENA post Attack on Titan is that Levi will be a top, top tier deck.
While having the AP handy to get this triple-attack-Snipe combo off may feel challenging at first, Blue Levi boasts a surprising number of cards that let you switch AP cards to active at the beginning of your attack phase. While these won’t be able to be used to play cards from your hand during your main phase the way typical AP extension does, they will make your Levi’s When Played triple attack much more feasible.
After the release of AOT, it’s quite likely that Blue Levi will become the number one most preferred multi-attack deck, edging out the popular Blue SAO in that manner.
Attack on Titan feels like a very, very exciting set with a ton of different and unique combos and strategies to try out. Nothing in here feels refurbed or rehashed from previous sets, making it a refreshing set that will undoubtedly have an out-sized impact on the way the game is played.
