Mega Gengar ex is a dark box deck

There’s so much new support for dark types in Phantasmal Flames that this deck essentially acts as a dark toolbox deck. That being said, Mega Gengar ex is still your primary attacker.

A few highlights from the powerful Mega Gengar ex:

  • 350 HP makes Gengar very tough.

  • Void Gale does 230 damage.

  • Shadowy Concealment reduces the number of prizes your opponent takes.

While the first two points are straightforward enough, the really important thing that sets Mega Gengar ex apart is “Shadowy Concealment.” This is a very powerful ability that is an absolute must in dark box style decks like this one. Successful Pokemon games are typically won by seeking out favorable prize trades, and few cards if any make this possible like Mega Gengar ex. Indeed, decks that primarily run Pokemon ex are going to struggle int Mega Gengar ex unless they can find a way to take it down before this guy comes online, or if they can somehow work to negate the ability altogether.

Secondary attackers for Mega Gengar Dark Box

Mega Gengar ex has two powerful secondary attackers at its disposal that really make the deck sing. The first and more important is Mega Sharpedo ex.

Mega Sharpedo hits very, very hard, especially considering it becomes just a two-prize Pokemon with Mega Gengar ex on the field. For the most part you’re going to want to be leading the charge with this guy as this deck’s most reliable, heavy-hitting attacker.

But you also have a very handy attacker in the form of Seviper.

Seviper

Seviper is an incredible attacker, swinging for 240 damage as long as you have a dark Mega Evolution Pokemon ex on the field. Being able to field three incredibly strong attackers like these – and leverage them depending on the scenario you rae facing – gives a significant advantage to Mega Gengar ex.

Toxtricity and the Sinister Surge

We’ve gone over the attackers you have at your disposal in Mega Gengar ex’s deck, but the card that really makes this deck work is Toxtricity and the powerful Sinister Surge engine. Using this ability, you can easily and reliably accelerate dark energies from your deck onto your benched dark type Pokemon. In the process, you also damage the Pokemon you attach the energies to, making them prime targets for the infamous Munkidori’s Adrena-Brain ability. Toxtricity also benefits from being only a Stage 1 Pokemon, making it relatively easy to set up.

Making your Mega Pokemon ex extra tanky

What’s worse than denying your opponent a prize when they knock out one of your Pokemon? How about making them work extra hard to take those knockouts in the first place?

One new card that we get in Phantasmal Flames to help with this is the Battle Colosseum Stadium.

Battle Stadium is going to help keep your Pokemon safe while you work to build up your bench. This works particularly well in Mega Gengar ex as you aren’t looking to spread damage to your opponent’s board.

This Stadium isn’t the only card that helps protect your Pokemon, however. This deck list also runs the Hero’s Cape to grant extra HP and Wally’s Compassion to heal your Pokemon after they’ve been damaged.

Mega Gengar ex looks like a very strong deck. It’s a bit brainier than some decks, but under the guidance of the right pilot it could certainly be used to enable a positive prize trade that could be very, very hard to deal with.
