Mega Venusaur ex Deck List and Overview

Mega Venusaur ex is one of the most exciting new Mega Evolution decks. But how do you play it? Is it good enough to actually win? Well, thanks to a powerful range of support for Grass type Pokemon (arguably the best we’ve seen in years), Mega Venusaur ex could very well be competitively viable.

Below, we’ll be looking at this brand new deck and what makes it tick!

Mega Venusaur ex

First, we have to take a look at Mega Venusaur ex – one of the toughest of the Mega Pokemon revealed in the TCG so far. The first thing you might notice about this powerful attacker is its HP. At nearly 400 HP, Venusaur ex brings a whole different strategy into the game thanks to its beefiness alone.

However, it doesn’t take long before you realize that Venusaur’s strength doesn’t lie in defense alone. Indeed, it has a powerful energy acceleration ability, letting you transfer grass energy between your Pokemon. In this case (and thanks to how many Teal Mask Ogerpon ex you have), you’ll be able to quickly move grass energy around in-between your Pokemon while also benefiting from excellent draw capabilities.

Do this right and you can quickly power up Jungle Dump – an attack that does 240 damage, heals your Mega Venusaur ex for 30 damage, and has no other adverse effects.

Quickly power up “Jungle Dump” with Meganium

One of the best new cards coming into the game not only for Mega Venusaur ex but for all grass decks is the powerful Meganium. Meganium’s “Wild Growth” ability is a huge boon for grass decks – many of which benefit from having multiple grass energies attached to Pokemon. For Mega Venusaur ex, having Meganium in play means you only need two grass energy attached to the Mega Pokemon in order to use the powerful Jungle Dump.

Evolution made easy with Vitality Forest

The other big add for both Mega Venusaur ex and all other Grass decks out there is the vitally important Vitality Forest. Vitality Forest grants a pretty insane edge to evolution grass decks by letting players evolve grass type Pokemon the turn they are played. Essentially this card acts like the powerful Grand Tree if you are familiar with that card, but without taking up your ACE SPEC slot.

Of course, this means you will need to have the cards you need in hand and not from the deck the way you do with Grand Tree. However, running four copies in your deck means making it much more likely you will find the stadium when and where you need it while also opening up the ACE SPEC slot for more utility.

Vitality Forest is going to be absolutely huge for grass decks – I’ve used the Grand Tree in my Hydrapple ex deck for ages, so I know how powerful it can be. Not having to rely on a single ACE SPEC card to pull this off is going to be a game changer for fans of grass decks.

While Mega Venusaur ex is likely to be an immensely popular deck when Mega Evolutions comes out, there’s a bigger story here. Grass decks gain a massive advantage over the playing field thanks to the intro of Vitality Forest – something they’ve really needed as we haven’t had a real top tier Grass deck in some time in the Pokemon TCG Standard meta.
