Which Harry Potter Movie is Best for Christmas?

Harry Potter Christmas

I’m not sure what season gets you wanting to watch Harry Potter more – Christmas, or fall? Both seasons have a lot going for them, to be fair. Autumn is Back to Hogwarts Day, while Christmas makes you want to cuddle up and think of butter beer.

So, let’s just assume that Christmas is one of the best times to watch Harry Potter. But which Harry Potter Movie is best for Christmas?

In this list, we’re going to highlight the best Christmas cheer in each Harry Potter Film to help you decide which is the best to start your binge with this year.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

The Harry Potter films change a lot over time, meaning that you can stay within the same Harry Potter cinematic universe but still get a pretty diverse range of emotions, experiences and adventures.

While Goblet of Fire isn’t the coziest of the Potter films, it’s got plenty of Christmas spirt. Most prominently, we’re talking about the Yule Ball. Just in case you didn’t know, the Yule Ball actually takes place on December 25th – which is Christmas!

So if you’re in the mood for some good ol’ teenage angst this Christmas, you might want to make the Goblet of Fire your go-to Harry Potter Christmas flick.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

While you might find it a little odd that we included one of the few Harry Potter films that doesn’t actually directly mention Christmas, there’s one reason and one reason only that we have to add The Prisoner of Azkaban to this list. That reason is this: Hogsmeade.

Anyone who has been to Harry Potter World (I’ve only been to the one in Hollywood so I’m specifically thinking of that one) can attest to this – there’s nothing more magical than Hogsmeade on a snowy day. Indeed, that’s probably why the parks are so incredibly busy during the holiday season – just trying to soak up some of that holiday cheer.

Hogsmeade is the quintesential holiday village, and both the third book and third movie dwell deeply in Hogsmeade.

Speaking of the books, there’s actually a special holiday feast during the books that Harry gets to go to with some of the other professors, including Albus Dumbledore!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

The first film that probably came to your mind when you started reading this list was “Sorcerer’s Stone.” Indeed, it probably does have the most memorable Christmas scene out of all the films, with Harry Potter getting his epic invisibility cloak and first real presents of his life. It’s sort of like we get to experience Christmas for the first time all over again each time we watch it through the eyes of this poor, neglected orphan-turned savior of the world.

We’re just glad that he had his best friend and trusty sidekick Ron by his side that holiday season.
